A Frugal Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is a chance to show the ones you love just how much you love them. Many people do this by spending a lot of money on flowers, jewelry, candy, and cards. In fact, Valentine’s Day is one of the most expensive holidays in the US. There are a few things you can do to keep the holiday a little more frugal. Here are a few of my ideas.
Candlelight Dinner at Home
Going out for dinner can cost you a lot of money. You can make a nice dinner at home for a fraction of the cost and with leftovers. It is also private and a few candles can set the mood.
Homemade Card
Cards can be quite expensive and sometimes even get thrown away. Why not make your own card. This will put your personal touch on it and make it more memorable and something your love one will want to hold on to. You can write a poem, write a dozen reasons why you love them, have a top ten list, stroll down memory lane by remembering your first date or wedding day. All these make the gift of a simple card so much more special.
Scrapbook
Scrapbooking has been a popular hobby for many years. Some is even done digitally now. You can even get companies like Shutterfly to make scrapbooks for you. You place your pictures where you want and add your captions and they produce it into a book. Taking a stroll down memory lane with you loved one in pictures can make a really special gift.
Time Off
If you have days available, take Valentine’s Day off and spend it with your spouse. You will have to plan this together so both of you can have the day off. Take the day to spend together doing something fun.
A Massage
Take time to make your loved one feel special by making them feel great. A massage is a great way to make them feel special and stress free. You can check out lots of great books from your local library to learn how to give the perfect massage.
Movie Night
Movie nights at home can be frugal. You can pop your own popcorn, buy candy boxes at the Dollar Stores, and you can even get a Redbox movie for $1.00 per night or check the web for free codes. Take time to snuggle you love one and enjoy the time together during the movie.
Plan Ahead
If you really feel Valentine’s Day is special and you need to spend some money of your loved one on this special day, plan ahead. Plan a way to save before February comes so you will be ready and have the money on hand to spend on your love one.
