How to Avoid Feeding Problems from the Start

There are a lot of things to learn when you become a mom, and first-time moms will inevitably make a lot of mistakes.
One thing I wished I had learned earlier was that not all bottles are created equal! A bottle is a bottle right?
WRONG. Let me explain why.
My first baby, Violet, was very challenging. From day one she was fussy and it kept getting worse. By the time she was two weeks old, she was crying most of the time she was awake.
During this time period I was frustrated and felt like I was going insane. I felt like a bad mom because I could not soothe my child. I did my own fair share of crying.
I could not nurse my daughter so she was solely bottle fed. She had major problems with reflux and spit up constantly. I knew this was probably a big reason why she was so uncomfortable, but it took me a long time to figure out how to help her.
Finally, a friend of mine suggested trying a bottle that was meant for colicky babies. The anti-colic bottle by Philips Avent solved my daughters feeding problems!
It vents the air in the bottle so that your baby isn’t swallowing air, which causes gas and spitting up. My favorite part is there aren’t extra bottle parts to clean like other venting bottles out there on the market. The nipple also won’t collapse so your baby can continuously feed.
Babies fed with Philips Avent anti-colic bottles experienced 60% less fussing at night, than babies fed with a leading competitor’s vented bottle.
*At 2 weeks of age, babies fed with a Philips Avent bottle showed a trend to less colic compared to a conventional bottle and a significant reduction in fussing at night compared to babies fed with another leading bottle.
After switching to the anti-colic bottle, my daughter would still have crying spells but her fussiness did decrease significantly.
She was even spitting up a lot less too!
She and I finally had some relief. I used these bottles from the start with my second child and he never had any feeding problems.
Apparently all bottles are not created equal. I tell everyone I know that is having a baby about these bottles now so they can avoid issues from the beginning.
Sarah Chalk also dealt with a colicky baby and is now a brand ambassador for Philips Avent so she can help other moms. Check out this video to hear all about her experience.
