Celebrating Doggy’s First Christmas
My family adopted over the summer.
It was an adoption of the furry variety. My kids had been begging for a dog for years so when we saw a little 2 year old Corgi/Australian Shepherd mix that needed a home, we knew he needed to join our family.
This holiday season is a big milestone for our family because not only is it our first holiday in our new house, but it’s also doggy’s first Christmas. We’ve partnered with CESAR® brand to share a few of the ways we are making this holiday season special for our new addition.
Get an ornament to commemorate the milestone.
When we added a new baby to our family, we always commemorated the milestone with a holiday ornament. Each year when we decorate the tree, we have fun sharing all the memories that are attached to each ornament. Do the same for your dog. Find a puppy’s first Christmas ornament (or make one) to add to your tree.
Have a stocking for your dog.
The holiday stocking is an essential part of Christmas morning. Why not include your dog? There are some cute dog stockings available and you can stuff them with special treats, toys, and dog food. Your kids will probably have just as much fun watching the dog try and get into his stocking as your dog will have emptying it.
Take family photos . . . with the whole family.
We love taking family photos in front of the Christmas tree every year. It’s fun to see how much everyone changes from year to year. This year, take a family photo with the whole family, including your new furry family member. Dogs can be tricky to pose with. If your dog is small, have someone hold him. For larger dogs, kneel down on the floor next to your dog.
Be prepared to be a bit patient in case your dog wants to play instead of pose.
Take a video.
Christmas day videos are fun anyway, but it’s always fun to look back and see your puppy’s reaction. Our new dog isn’t quite a puppy at 2 years old, but he’s still very young and gets excited about things. I suspect he is going to be terrified of wrapping paper since he’s known in our house as being a bit of a chicken.
Get matching sweaters
What could say your dog is part of the family more than matching sweaters? Cesar® Canine Cuisine are big supporters of the strengthening that special connection between pet owners and their pets, especially during the holidays. This holiday season, they sent an adorable set of matching sweaters for me and my dog.
If you are feeling crafty, you can download the knitting pattern here.
We look pretty cute, don’t you think.
Apparently we have more than one set of twins in our house right now . . .
Don’t have matching sweaters? Use Cesar’s photo generator to make a #MatchyMatchy photo of you and your dog.

The Christmas jumpers are awesome! I have to get one for our dogs, they love coats and jumpers but they do not have a christmasy one (yet), thanks for the share.
