With 6 kids, I have a lot of electronics around my home. This includes multiple TV’s. The problem is that with 6 kids, I never have time to do many of the DIY projects that I want to around the house. One of the things on my to-do list has been to mount our basement TV to the wall and find a cleaner solution for all the cables that we have coming out of it. I’d been looking for an easy solution for a while so I was excited to come across the Legrand in wall power kit.
I’ve installed several TVs on walls before, and in the past, running the wires down through the wall so they weren’t visible has been a huge task. I’m not an electrician so making that happen was a bit tricky. For one TV, I hired it out because I didn’t want to mess with any of the wiring.
The Legrand in wall power kit doesn’t require any electrical wiring. The whole process is just about as easy as they could make it.
The kit comes with all the parts and tools you need for the installation and claims it can be done in under 30 minutes. The power grommets that come with it are designed to pop right in the wall and the kit includes a tool that makes it easy to fish the wires from the TV to whatever location you want them to come out.
We’ve had a mess of cords installed to an old, heavy TV that had the screen coming out. My wife was worried about having such a heavy TV around the kids and the messy wires drove everyone nuts.
We’ve had a new TV that has been sitting, waiting to be mounted on the wall, for at least 6 months, but the hassle of running the cords through the wall has stalled us.
With the Legrand in wall power kit, the process was easy and we were able to knock that task off our to-do list in part of an afternoon. The kit says it takes 30 minutes. We had to mount the TV to the wall too so our process took just a bit longer but the actual wiring definitely took 30 minutes or less.
The kit came with a hole saw that attaches to a drill (or has a handle for manual installation) to create a hole that is a perfect fit for the power grommets.
The longest part of this process was deciding where to put the hole. My kids were amused to see what the inside of our walls looked like.
The power grommets fit perfectly and then I just had to use the fish tape to feed the wire through to the second hole.
Now we have a really clean TV installation with all the wires tucked out of the way. We fed our wires off to the side to give our basement family room a clutter-free look and we don’t have to worry about kids tugging on wires and getting hurt or damaging the electronics.
