Colic Relief for Babies
Colic can be rough on both mom and baby. If you are the mother of a baby who suffers from colic, you would are likely willing to try almost anything to get some colic relief. Colic is thought to be caused by gas pain, and a gassy baby is rarely a happy one. A few simple techniques can help relieve your baby’s pain and stop both of your suffering.
Check the Basics – Infants cry to communicate and the problem can often be a simple one. Check your infant’s diaper to be sure it is clean, check to see if your baby is hungry, and look for any environmental causes for her discomfort such as rough clothing, or an uncomfortable temperature. Even babies that suffer from colic can be upset if there basic needs aren’t being met.
Belly Pressure – Lay your baby face down on your knees so her stomach has some light pressure on it. Many babies with colic enjoy this position and it may help to work some of the extra gas out of your baby’s tiny body.
Swaddling – Swaddling is comforting to nearly all babies and may help to calm even the fussiest baby. Wrap your infant’s arms and legs close to her body, not tight enough to be uncomfortable, but tight enough that she can not move. Many infants find it very comforting to be rocked while they are swaddled.
White Noise – Many new moms tend to try and maintain silence around there baby, but the fact is, life in the womb isn’t quiet. White noise such as, vacuum cleaners, clothes dryers, or fans can be very relaxing to babies.
Gripe Water – Many parents swear by using gripe water to treat colic. Colic Calm Gripe Water is FDA approved and 100% natural.
Go for a Drive – Riding in the car can often rock a baby to sleep. If your baby enjoys car rides, pack her up and go for a drive. Driving may have the added benefit of helping your baby fall asleep. She may feel better after having a nap.
