Diaper Bag Essentials for New Moms
“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for WaterWipes. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”
The most common question I get from my friends who are becoming new moms is “What essentials do I absolutely need for my Diaper bag?”. Going into baby stores can be a bit overwhelming with all the different products available. To make it simple, here is my list of what must be in my diaper bag before leaving the house.
Diapers- This is kind of a no brainer, but to be more specific, I like to make sure I have one Diaper for every two hours I will be out of the house, plus an extra just in case.
Wet wipes- You will go through wipes like crazy with newborns. Not only for diaper changes but for wiping their faces, yourself, or other little messes that occur. With a product that goes directly on your babies skin, It’s important to pick a brand that is gentle and natural. I recently switched to using WaterWipes, which are completely chemical free! They are 99.9% water and .1% grapefruit seed extract. You can’t get any more natural than that! Even though they are mostly water, they did the job just as well as any other brands I’ve tried. I even found I was using fewer wipes than before. WaterWipes can be found in your local Babies R’ Us where you can buy 2 packs for only $6 (normally $3.99 a pack!).
Hand sanitizer– This is for you mom, because you won’t always be around a sink to wash your hands after a diaper change. I keep a miniature sized bottle in my bag so it takes up very little space.
Extra outfits and ziploc bags- Newborns have a lot of diaper blow outs and a lot of spit up. I had no idea how fast they went through outfits! I quickly learned to keep ziplock bags with me in order to put in dirty outfits or burp rags. Mess contained, easy peasy.
Burp rags- I usually bring at least two burp rags with me for good measure.
Changing pad- Public changing tables are gross. Who knows how often those get cleaned or whats been on it. Also, if there isn’t a changing table, a pad is much better to use than the floor.
Nursing cover or bottle/formula dispenser- Unfortunately I was not able to nurse so I would always bring one bottle filled with water and then I premeasured my formula into a dispenser which was really handy. If you are nursing then make sure you keep a cover with you that you are comfortable using in public.
Blanket- Blankets can be use not only for keeping baby warm, but for sun protection, an extra burp rag, or double as a nursing cover if you want to save room in your bag.
Rash Cream- Diaper rashes still happen even if you are consistently changing your baby Its absolutely necessary to have some cream on hand to sooth their sore tushie, or they will be very, very mad.
