DIY Pencil Tins with Chalk Labels
It’s almost back-to-school season! Is it sad that this is my favorite time of year? I love the freshness of a new school year routine. It’s kind of like New Year’s but with school supplies.
I love finding fun ways to organize school supplies but I’ll admit, I’m not much of a DIY’er so I need easy projects. These DIY pencil (or anything else) tins with chalk labels are perfect for keeping all your school supplies organized and this project took less than 15 minutes. These tins look so cute displayed on a homework desk and the labels make it easy for kids to know where everything goes.
Materials Needed
- Chalkboard Tape –Â The secret to making this project so easy is chalkboard tape. Did you know they made this? It is the coolest stuff ever. I was so excited for all the lazy DIY project possibilities when I discovered it. You can get chalkboard tape on Amazon or most office supply stores.
- Pencil Tins – I found these in the $1 section at my local Target but any small tins will work for this project. You could use Mason jars, orange juice concentrate containers covered in contact paper, or just about anything else that is the right size.
- Chalk Markers – You could use regular chalk for this but I like the fact that the chalk markers don’t flake off. I found chalk markers at my local Target but you can also find chalk markers on Amazon.
- School Supplies – to fill your jars with.
Instructions
Cut your chalkboard tape in 2-3 inch sections, depending on the width of your container. Write on your labels before you stick them to the tins so you can make sure your writing looks okay.
When you are happy with your label, center it and stick it firmly to the tin.
Fill each tin with the school supplies your kids use the most and line them up on a desk or in a window so you have easy access to them.
That’s it! You have an easy way to store your school supplies.
Do you have any creative ways to organize school supplies?
