Have you Forgotten to Childproof THIS in your Laundry Room?
Thank you to The American Cleaning Institute for sponsoring this post and helping us bring attention to this important issue.
As parents, we want to do everything we can to keep our kids safe. I know all too well how quickly an accident can happen. We work to childproof our home and make sure our kids are protected.
What if I told you there was something in your laundry room that you’ve probably forgotten to childproof?
*Disclaimer: liquid laundry packets should be kept stored in their original containers
Every year, kids get very sick after ingesting liquid laundry packets. According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, in 2015 there were over 12,954 exposures to liquid laundry packets in children 5 and younger.
That is a scary statistic.
The problem is, each laundry packet contains highly concentrated liquid laundry detergent that can cause serious injury if they are accidentally ingested or if eye exposure occurs.

With 6 kids, including 3 who are 4 and under, I understand how carefully you need to watch kids. After 13 years as a mom, my kids are still surprising me with the ways they can figure out how to hurt themselves.
Those liquid laundry detergents look so innocent though.
Until recent years, when laundry packet accidents were reported on the news, it never occurred to me that they could be a risk if not stored properly.
The American Cleaning Institute recommends following these KEY steps to keep your laundry routine as safe as possible:
Keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of the reach of children
Educate your family and friends about the safe use and storage of these new laundry products
You serve a key role in laundry safety
Talking about this issue helps us to keep kids safe, in our home and in our community. I love the convenience of laundry packets but I’m now more cautious about the way that I store them. I make sure I keep them in their original container and high, up out of my young children’s reach.
