How to Freshen the 3 Stinkiest Places in your Kitchen
If there’s one place in your home you don’t want to deal with stinky smells it’s the kitchen. There’s nothing worse than eating in a place that has a mystery smell.
Fortunately, we have some simple tips that will help you keep your kitchen smelling fresh.
There are 3 main areas in your kitchen that are usually to blame for any smells:
- The trash can
- The sink
- The fridge
Staying on top of those 3 things can make sure you only smell all the yummy things you are cooking in your kitchen.
First, check your trash can
The trash can is the first place I check if there are mystery smells. Take the trash out to get rid of any old food smells that may be in there. If the smell lingers, give your trash can a good wash in warm soapy water and let it dry completely.

Next, have a look at your sink
The sink is the next most common place that you’ll end up with a weird smell in your kitchen. Make sure all your dishes are washed and the sink has been wiped down well. I like to fill the sink up with hot soapy water at least several times a month and let it soak for a while.
If there’s still a strange smell, your disposal is probably to blame. Slice up some lemons and drop them, one at a time, down the disposal while it is running. they will freshen up the disposal and clean it a bit at the same time.
Finally, take a good look at your fridge
The fridge tends to hide smells when it is closed but as soon as you open it you’ll know if you have something hiding in there. Clean out all the old food. I like to do one shelf really well every week.
Wipe down all surfaces. Be sure and get into the crevices. Any liquid spills can get into those area and get really gross.
Put an open box of baking soda at the back of your fridge to help absorb smells. This can make a huge difference.
