How to have the Perfect Mommy & Me Date
,This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney Junior. All opinions are 100% mine.
I want to fill my kids up with good memories.
I’m realizing as my kids get older just how much the time I have with them is limited. I get 18 summers, 18 Christmases, 18 birthdays, before I have to send them out into the world as adults.
With my daughters, I’ve tried to make a habit of taking regular mommy and me time. My sons are getting older and busier and it’s easy to get caught into the habit of running our lives on their schedules. With 3 girls ages 3 and under, I have to remember to scale things down from time to time and cater things to the small people in our house.
Things have been particularly busy lately and Mother’s Day reminded me that I need to slow down a bit so the other day I grabbed my oldest daughter and took her on a mommy date to Disneyland . . . which is really the happiest place in the world for her.
We both have a thing for Minnie Mouse so she was thrilled when we made a quick trip to Walmart before our day started to grab a fun little Minnie Mouse Toddler Girl T-Shirt Dress with a tutu that was perfect for twirling.
Have you checked out Walmart’s selection of Disney Junior Minnie Mouse items? They have some really cute styles and they are so much cheaper than I find them anywhere else.
I have a few rules I like to follow on Mommy & Me dates with my daughters:
- No phones (except for photos)
- Make eye contact when my daughter is talking to me to show her I am listening
- Make sure to have one truly memorable experience
- Hold hands as much as possible (because she may not want to do it someday)
I try and do mommy and me dates regularly but with 6 kids and a busy schedule it can be hard to have one on one time.
I know my kids will remember those times I spent with them though. Even if they don’t remember every moment (which I know they won’t) they will remember that I took the time to be with them. They will remember how that made them feel and they will know that I love them.
You can have an amazing mommy and me date just about anywhere. Some of our favorites have just been going out for ice cream or taking a trip to the park.
My daughter is obsessed with all things Minnie Mouse right now so I wanted to surprise her with a special date to Disneyland to visit Minnie in person. I didn’t tell her where we were going and it was so fun to see her face light up when she realized where we were.
Minnie, of course, loved my daughter’s new dress.
My daughter couldn’t stop giggling when the real Minnie realized that she was on the front of her dress.
There’s something about the magic of Disney that has the power to create some amazing memories. Whether we are cuddling up on the couch to watch a favorite movie or giving hugs to Minnie Mouse in person, I know these are moments that my daughter will remember.
At the end of the day, I had a very tired, but happy little girl on my hands.
She was practically sleep walking by the end of the night. I wrapped her up in the Disney Minnie Mouse Bows and Dots Beach Towel we had grabbed at Walmart while we were finding her dress (I learned after an unfortunate experience with a water ride after dark to always bring a towel).
She just stood there, soaking in everything around her and I knew she would remember that moment.
We’d created some wonderful memories. I tucked her into her bed with her Minnie Mouse blanket, that we also found at Walmart as a special treat, and knew that when she woke up in the morning and saw Minnie’s face she would remember our day all over again.
