What you Need to Know About Sun Protection
This post was sponsored by La Roche-Posay as part of an Influence Central campaign and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
We aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet and for my fair skinned crew, that means we have to make sure and use plenty of sun protection. We just discovered the line of sun protection products from La Roche-Posay and their products our making our time in the sun much more enjoyable.
Sun protection is so important. Â According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, just 5 sunburns before the age of 20 can increase the risk of melanoma by +80%.
As someone with very fair skin, I’ve certainly had more than 5 sunburns in my life. My skin is sensitive too so I’m very careful about what I put on my skin (I love Cicaplast Baume B5 for spot treating my skin when I have dry patches or irritation).
Half my kids inherited my skin so I know how careful I have to be when we go out in the sun, even beyond summer when the risk of burns is still high if you are spending any length of time outside.
La Roche-Posay makes it easier to keep track of your level of sun exposure with the La Roche-Posay My UV Patch and mobile app (available both on iOS and Android).
You put the patch directly on your skin (my kids love that it is like a fun heart-shaped sticker) and it monitors your UV radiation in real-time to help you make sure that you and your kids are not overdoing your sun exposure. Sometimes all we need is a little reminder to come inside out of the sun or reapply the sunblock.
Up to 80% of skin damage caused by the sun occurs before the age of 18. As a mom, that makes me want to really step up my game when it comes to sun protection and make sure that my kids are staying safe when they are in the sun.
We’ve slipped up a few times and there is nothing worse than seeing your child in pain and knowing that you could have prevented it. We’ve been using Anthelios 60 Dermo-Kids, a brand new sunscreen from La Roche-Posay and I’ve been loving it. It isn’t greasy like so many sunscreens are and it was developed with moms, dermatologists, and pediatricians so you know your kids are protected.
This sunscreen has UVA/UVB filters that provide broad spectrum protection for up to 80 minutes, which is amazing. It’s water resistant so it’s perfect for summer water sports too.
As a mom of kids with sensitive skin, I love how gentle it is and I can definitely get behind the mission of La Roche-Posay in their fight agains skin cancer.
How can you fight against skin cancer?
La Roche-Posay wants to encourage parents and caregivers to be aware of the dangers of sun damage and take steps to protect your kids’ skin (and your own).
They recommend that you:
1) Protect your skin
2) Check your moles
3) Play safe in the sun
Summer may be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean that we don’t need to protect our skin from sun damage. We still have some fun adventures planned this fall and we’ll definitely be making sure that we are making sun protection a priority.
