Non-Scary Halloween Books for Kids
We love celebrating holidays with books. These non-scary Halloween books are some of our favorites and it is so much fun to read them together throughout the month of October.

Books are such a huge part of our holiday celebrations. We have so much fun pulling out our box of Halloween books for kids at the same time that we pull out our Halloween decorations. We read the books all month and then pack them away so they are exciting again the following Halloween.
These are a few of our favorite non-scary Halloween books for kids. We’ve enjoyed these so much over the years and love pulling them out each year.
Non-Scary Halloween Books for Kids

Gustavo, the Shy Ghost
Gustavo the Shy Ghost is a new release from Candlewick Press and it has quickly become a favorite at my house. Gustavo is a shy little ghost who doesn't quite fit in. He hides when he is in public and my girls had so much fun finding all of his creative hiding spots. Throughout the story, he finally realizes that it is okay to be himself and he realizes that his friends accept him for exactly who he is. This story is so needed today when everyone is trying to find their place, which is so hard since we are keeping to ourselves. My girls absolutely loved this story and the illustrations are GORGEOUS.

A Job for Wittilda (Picture Puffin Books)
A Job for Wittilda is a book my kids and I have enjoyed since they were little and it has become a very well worn book over the years. This is such a fun story of cat-loving Wittilda who needs to find a job in order to buy food for all of her forty-seven cats. This hilarious story follows Wittilda as she tries (and fails) several jobs until she finds the one that is the perfect fit for her.

Skeleton Hiccups
The poor little skeleton has the hiccups. He looks to his friends to help him find a way to get rid of them. This books will have kids laughing out loud as the skeleton tries everything he can think of to get rid of his hiccups.

Room on the Broom
Room on the Broom is a popular Halloween book about a witch who loses her hat, then her bow, and then her wand when a heavy wind strikes. She is helped by three friends but then she must find space on her broom for all of her friends. This is such a cute story with engaging illustrations that everyone loves.

Pumpkin Soup: A Picture Book
Pumpkin Soup is one of our favorite Halloween stories and is a delightful tale of friendship. Three friends make pumpkin soup every day and it goes perfectly until the Duck decides that he wants to change things up and try a different job. This is such a great story about learning to be flexible and forgiving friends when they make mistakes. I love that the book includes a pumpkin soup recipe at the end.

Where's Waldo? Spooky Spotlight Search
We are huge fans of the Where's Waldo books and this Halloween version does not disappoint. Where's Waldo Spooky Spotlight Search changes things up a bit by having kids use a moveable glow-in-the-dark slider to find the items in each picture. This book has kept my kids busy for hours on end this October and I'm sure it is one they will enjoy for years to come.

Bonaparte Falls Apart
Bonaparte has a little problem. Everywhere he goes he loses parts of his skeleton. This story follows him as he tries to find solutions to help him stay together. The illustrations in this book are so much fun and the story is a great example of true friendship.
