Pretzel Sandwich Kebabs with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Thanks to Nature’s Harvest® for sponsoring this post.
With school back in session it’s time to test your sandwich making skills. I think the general consensus is school lunches are awesome and creative for about the first week of school.
After that, it’s all downhill.
These pretzel sandwich kebabs are quick and easy to make and they are so much fun to pack in a boxed lunch. Serve with an easy honey mustard dipping sauce (because dipping makes everything better). The best part? You can eat your kebab stick as you go!
We used Nature’s Harvest® bread to make these because they give this lunch at least 8 grams of whole grains in every serving with no artificial flavors, colors or high-fructose corn syrup. Nature’s Harvest Honey Wheat, is on rollback for only $1.97 at Walmart right now so it’s a great chance to stock up. Did you know you can freeze bread? I do it all the time and it’s great to have on hand for school lunches. I just toast the bread after it thaws and you can’t tell that it was frozen at all.
We’ve kind of been slackers lately when it comes to our nutrition because the twins take up so much of our time. Unless I can grab it and go, healthy meals don’t always happen right now so I love how easy these are. You can prepare them ahead of time to keep them on hand for snacks or you can send them in your child’s school lunch.
Have you ever made crazy sandwiches in an effort to get your kids more excited about healthy foods? Nature’s Harvest found in a recent survey that nearly 75% of moms have gotten a bit creative with styling food to encourage healthy eating. In line with that, they are hosting a Sandwich Art Facebook Contest with celebrity chef / mom Kelsey Nixon as a judge. The grand prize is a KITCHEN CRASH with Kelly Nixon and second prize winners will receive backpacks filled with Crayola products.

Ingredients
- Nature’s Harvest® bread
- Ham
- Cheese
- Cucumber
- Pretzel sticks
For the honey mustard dipping sauce:
- 2 Tbsp. mustard
- 2 Tbsp. mayo
- 2 Tbsp. honey
Preparation
To start, mix all the ingredients for the honey mustard dipping sauce together so you can get that out of the way. Blend well. Sometimes it takes a bit of stirring for the mayo to blend in completely. When it’s mixed together well, set your dip aside.
You’ll need a large straw to get your sandwich ingredients on your pretzel sticks. You could use tiny pretzel sticks and a regular straw. We found some nice long pretzel sticks that were a bit larger but to get a straw the right size we hit up a local smoothie shop that had nice wide straws.
Use the straw to cut a hole in the center of your sandwich ingredients.
Thread each ingredient onto your pretzel stick. I left a nice hand sized space at the bottom so my kids could use it as a handle. It seemed a little easier to eat that way. The great thing about this kebab is you can eat it, stick and all, as you go. Just dip the end into your dipping sauce and take a bite! This is so much easier for kids than eating off a kebab stick.
My kids were so excited to take these to school on their first day and they were easy enough to make that I think I’ll still be able to manage to throw them together a few months into the school year. My kids go to a hybrid homeschool charter so we only have to make lunches a few times a week. I’m in awe of the moms who can pull off awesome lunches every day of the week. Half the time I have my kids make their own.
They are building life skills, right?

Haha! I’m about as lazy as it gets when it comes to school lunch (and we mostly homeschool so I only have to make lunches a few times a week). I make my kids make their own lunch though and they can make these themselves. My 12 year old came up with the idea and they really like them.
These are adorable! The kids would love them. I will be passing this post on to friends who have little ones!
