Your vision gives you a way to experience the world. That is why it is essential that you work to take care of your family’s eye health.
It took my eyesight deteriorating before I realized what a gift it was.
It’s common to have your vision prescription change after pregnancy. When I had to up my eyeglasses prescription after my first few kids, I didn’t think anything of it. I expected that it would stabilize at some point.

My eyesight kept getting worse though.
After having my twins I started experiencing very dry eyes, blurry vision, and headaches. Constant eye infections had stopped me from being able to wear my contacts and I had serious concerns that I wouldn’t be able to wear them again. I realized that my prescription had likely changed again but I couldn’t explain away my other symptoms.
I put off going to the ophthalmologist because I had newborn twins and very little time for anything else, including my own health.
Honestly, I was so tired at that point that I think it was easy to brush off my eye issues as a byproduct of sleep deprivation.

I finally realized I needed to make my vision a priority. My eye health was starting to affect my day-to-day life.
My ophthalmologist was able to stabilize my vision and stop the chronic eye infections I was having. More importantly, that trip to the eye doctor gave me the first clue that I likely had an autoimmune disease and, with some encouragement from the ophthalmologist, I started on the path towards a diagnosis.

I no longer take my vision for granted. Having a very thorough eye doctor helped me to get my eye health under control and I’m so grateful for that every day because there are so many wonderful things I want to see.
