We Have Butterflies! – Insect Lore
My children watched the Butterfly Garden anxiously last week. After the activity of the full grown caterpillars the stillness of the chrysalids was a huge change. We waited, and we waited, and we waited. Over the weekend the Butterfly Garden came alive! Almost instantly we had butterflies fluttering all over the place.
My kids were mesmerized. We watched all day hoping to catch that moment when one of the few remaining butterflies emerged. We didn’t catch it this time. They seemed to be sneaking out as soon as we turned around but I’ve seen it before and it is amazing to watch in person. We watched as one after another, each butterfly slowly dried it’s wings and then began to fly around the butterfly garden.
Remember that poor little caterpillar who was knocked off the roof of the cup by another caterpillar and formed a chrysalid on the ground? He turned out just fine.
We’re getting ready to have a butterfly release party tomorrow afternoon. I’m going to try and catch some of those little guys on video as they fly away. They move fast so check back tomorrow to see if I managed to keep up with them.
