Why I Believe The Future has “Good Hearts, Good Hands℠
Thank you Allstate for sponsoring this post. I chose to write this post because doing good in local communities is at Allstate’s core.
Do you believe the future has “Good Hearts, Good Hands”℠? With just behind us, I took the opportunity to chat with my kids about ways they can make a difference in our local community. After hearing all of their great ideas, I definitely believe that that they have a bright future.
This time of year, it is so easy to get caught up in the stress of the holidays and forget that there is more to this time of year than all of the hustle and bustle. As a mom of six, I worry about whether or not I’m helping to teach my kids how to focus on the things that are truly important.
I want them to grow up to be kind, generous humans who are in the habit of giving back to their community.
This year, we scaled back for Christmas. In the past, I feel like too much of the emphasis in my own home has been about gifts. I’m horrible about going overboard. I just love giving my kids gifts. But I’ve realized that there is a more important gift that can’t be wrapped and put under the tree.
My goal as a mom is to raise good humans. I hope as my kids grow into adults that they are the type of people who look beyond themselves and search for needs that need to be met.
So, this year we did things a bit differently:
We worked with an organization in our community to purchase gifts for families in need.
My kids bought gifts for each other.
We focused more on experiences and spending time together than things.
There were fewer gifts under our Christmas tree but, hopefully, my kids were left with something that leaves a more lasting impression. The lessons learned as my kids give back to their family members and people in our community are far more important than anything I could wrap and put under the tree.
Allstate feels the same way. That’s why they are so dedicated to the communities where they live and work. They believe in youth empowerment, and they work to encourage that with community projects that help empower the younger generation to give back.
As a mom, I see the good my kids and others do every day. It restores my faith in humanity to see kids wanting to reach out and make positive change. Allstate believes young people are creating change every day and not just waiting for change to happen. You can see some amazing things happen when young people work together.
I sat down with my kids to watch the video below and they were inspired. These kids had no idea that the things they were dreaming of would become reality. What would happen if our kids knew that there was a real opportunity in this world for them to create change?

These kids had the opportunity to build critical social and emotional learning skills such as problem-solving, empathy, and teamwork. Imagine what those kids are now able to go out and do with that important lesson they learned.
This video inspired me to give my own kids more opportunities to make a difference. With a little guidance, I’m sure that they will do amazing things. Young people are the next generation of leaders and change-makers and it is inspiring to think of all the possibilities that are in their futures. I’m confident that the future has good hearts.
