5 Tips to Stay Sane When Working From Home with Kids
Many work at home moms chose to work from home for one very popular reason: to be at home with their kids. That is precisely why I chose to work from home. At first it seems like a brilliant idea right? No alarm clock, no daycare, no traffic to fight every morning? Â But the reality is it can be difficult, especially when you are mom 24/7 and you are trying to work at the same time.
The dishes stack up, the beds go unmade, the work is calling, so how can you keep your sanity, get the work done, and deal with the kids all at the same time?
Here are 5 tips to stay sane when working from home with kids:
Be flexible. When you are working from home you will be balancing both your work, your household chores and your kids.  Things will not always go as planned.  Remember that and be realistic and flexible with your schedule, your expectations and your time.  Plans will change often and you will have to find a way to make it work.  It will be worth it.
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Â You will learn that you can only do so much, so when you don’t get the laundry folded every day or you only reach one of your goals for the week learn to celebrate your victories. Â In addition, learn to give yourself some slack and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Ask for help! Â As moms sometimes we forget that we aren’t super women. Â We tend to try to do everything ourselves and rarely ask for help. Â Asking for help is actually a great way to save your sanity. Â Whether you ask another mom to trade babysitting or you ask your husband to do the dishes you will need to have some help as a work at home mom.
Create routines. Â For kids it is easier to deal with mom working when they know what to expect. Â If you create routines with your children that allow them to have fun with you, but also to give you time to work they will know what to expect and will get used to the routine.
Get creative. Â Sometimes you have to think outside the box to make things work. Â There will be work piling up and your kids will be especially needy so you’ll have to get creative to get it all done. Â You’ll find that necessity is the mother of invention.
I hope that these tips have helped you to realize how you can stay sane when working from home with kids.
