ACTON Blink Lite Electric Skateboard Review
My teenager is constantly on the lookout for the best way to get from point A to point B. When asked what he wanted for his birthday, he could think of one thing — transportation.
Since a driver’s license is still a few years away (thank goodness), we had to look at other options. ACTONÂ sent us their Blink Lite electric skateboard and after a few minutes riding it, my son was hooked. He decided it is definitely the best way to get around pre-driver’s license and with it being the cheapest electric skateboard on the market at only $299, we have a tendency to agree.
In our area, the school buses are completely overloaded. Kids are sitting three to a bench and many kids aren’t interested in riding the bus while it is so crowded. The Acton Blink Lite electric skateboard is definitely the coolest and easiest way to get to school!
Here’s what my son has to say about it:
I’ve wanted to learn to skate board for quite a while but every time I have gotten on one, I have struggled with regaining my balance after pushing off and realizing that their are no brakes if I start going to fast down a hill.
The ACTONÂ Blink Lite is the perfect skate board for a beginner. I was absolutely shocked at how easy it was to learn. You simply get on the board and push the control forward to start moving. Want to slow down or stop? Just take your thumb off the controls. It really is that simple. It even has a switch on the side to put it in reverse.
There are three different speed limiting modes that are controlled in the app but even for someone that has never spent much time on a skateboard, it only took a few hours to graduate from beginner to normal mode. I expect I will quickly graduate to pro mode which can take the board up to the top speed of 10mph.
One thing that really surprised me about the Blink Lite is how light  and portable it really is. My friend’s eSkates are much bulkier and heavier. The Blink Lite only weighs 7.7lbs and is really a short board design which makes it really easy to carry anywhere.
I am particularly in love with carrying it on ACTON SB Backpack.
This board easily straps on the backpack in seconds and given that this is not a longboard, like most ESkates, it does not feel top heavy at all.
When it comes to the ride, it is very easy to control and steer. I picked it up really quickly. I was amazed at how much easier it is to ride when you don’t have to constantly regain your balance with each push off. I did notice that if I ride for expended periods of time on the asphalt that it does vibrate my feet a lot so when I can, I much prefer to ride on cement surfaces.
As far as appearances go, this board looks awesome out of the box with a full grip tape top made of Canadian Maple wood and neon green wheels. I like the fast forward, play, pause and stop graphics on the front of the board and have had a lot of my friends ask me about it before realizing this is not your typical skateboard. My only minor complaint is that those neon green wheels obviously turned black within minutes of riding.
It also has two LED light bars (one on each side of the board). These are great so people can see if you if you need to get home after dark but I have found them to be a great power indicator to remind me to turn the board off when I am done to conserve battery.
It has a single hub motor on the rear left side. This generates 250 Watts and should be more than sufficient if you use it by ACTON’s guidelines of being under 160lbs and not go up more than an 8% incline.
The board has about a 5 mile range and recharges in only 2 hours, more than enough for my needs. It will even go up an 8% incline without assistance.
Acton has an app that connects to the board over bluetooth. It feels like the board is using the latest technology when you pair your phone to the board. It is used to change the different modes (beginner: 5MPH, normal: 7MPH and pro: 10MPH), show the battery level and track how far your have traveled. If location services are enabled, it even shows you other ACTON riders in the area.
My son is really happy with the board. It is so much fun to ride that he literally rides it everywhere (even if it looks pretty funny with him riding it to church in a suit).
My friends all want one. To buy your own ACTON Blink Lite go to ACTONGlobal.com and use the promo code below for 15% off.
