Finding the perfect gift for tween boys can be tricky. My boys have always loved to build things so we focus on building toys for this age.

I like to give my kids a chance to work on their problem-solving skills by working through projects on their own as often as I can. This set had easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions that were perfect for him. They were challenging, but not so overwhelming that he couldn’t do it.
My husband stepped in to help a few times, when he needed help with a few trickier tasks. I think he likely could have done the whole thing by himself, he just wanted a bit of moral support.
From start to finish, this took several hours to put together.
It would have gone faster if he’d had more help or could have been dragged out a bit longer if he did it completely on his own.
I liked that he had to work at it a bit. This ended up being a great way to spend the afternoon and he was so proud of himself when he was done.
We have the set put together now and my kids are still having a blast watching the roller coaster car whip around the track.
This is geared towards kids between the ages of 9 and 12. Younger kids could do it with a bit of help and many young teens would still get into this (my 13 year old thought it was awesome). The K’NEX  Wild Whiplash Roller Coaster is an exclusive at Walmart and sells for $32.97.
