Cheap Ways to Feed your Reading Habit
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of eBookArrow.com. All opinions are 100% mine.
Reading has always been my escape. I fell in love with books when I was 6 years old and my dad paid me a dollar to read my first chapter book. That was a great deal for him for $1 because I read all the books after that for free. As a mom I have less time to read and less money to devote to my reading habit but reading is the way I take care of my own needs when life gets crazy so I make sure that I read something every day.
My reading habit can get expensive if I let it though. If given the time, I’d devour a book every day. Of course my kids seem to want to be fed and cared for so my actual reading time happens in stolen moments between other tasks. Still, I always look for ways to save money on the books that I read because my kids probably want to go to college someday.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to save money on books:
Use your Local Library – We take full advantage of our local library. Make a weekly library visit a regular thing and stock up on books. I haven’t found the limit at my library yet and we come out with bags and bags of books but check with your library to find out what they’ll let you do. Many libraries offer ebook lending now. I love to read on the go so being able to store lots of books on my tablet or e-reader and pop it in my diaper bag is perfect. Just pay attention to those due dates or the fines will really get you.
Start a Book Swap – Do you have friends who are readers? They can be a great resource, not only for book ideas, but as a source of reading material. Trade books when you are finished with one that you love. Start a free library where everyone can pool their finished books together and take a new one out when they need one (I’ve seen some really cute ideas for free libraries that are open to the community, including one that was set in a flower crate in someone’s front yard).
Look for Free Kindle Book Offers – I love the Kindle app. You don’t have to own a Kindle to use it. The app is free and I have it on my phone and tablet too so I can read whenever I get a spare moment. If you keep your eyes open you can find some great free e-books. Hunt the Garage Sales – Used books sell for pennies so you can find some great books for practically nothing at local garage sales. Most of the time people just want to get their finished books out of their house so you can get some amazing deals, often on hard to find books. I’ve found some great deals on books for me (and me kids) at garage sales and when I’m done I don’t feel guilty gifting them to someone else.
