Facebook Marketplace Dresser Makeover with DIY Chalk Paint Recipe
Thank you Facebook Marketplace for sponsoring this post. There’s something for everyone!
Have you discovered Facebook Marketplace? It’s the first place I go to when I need something for my home. There are always great deals on some great, unique items. When my sister needed a dresser for her son’s room, she turned to Facebook Marketplace. After getting a great deal on this sturdy dresser, she gave it a facelift and ended up with the perfect piece for her home.
Facebook Marketplace is such a fun way to find new things for your home, or anything else. I love how easy Facebook Marketplace makes it to find things that I need, and discover quirky, hard-to-find items too.
I’m constantly checking to see if anything is listed that I just can’t turn down. There are so many unique things that come across Facebook Marketplace in my area that I just can’t resist peeking at it throughout the day.
I use Facebook Marketplace to get rid of some of the clutter in my own house (and earn money for it at the same time). That helps me make space for some of the amazing things I find.
When my sister told me that she needed a new dresser for her son’s room, I immediately told her to start hunting on Facebook Marketplace. I’ve found such amazing things there at a fraction of the cost that I would pay new, so I knew that she would find something amazing.
It only took a few days before she found something that was perfect.
The dresser she discovered was sturdy, but a bit dated with heavy grain and brass drawer pulls.
Wooden furniture can be given new life with a coat of paint, though, and she saw the potential.
This piece of furniture looked dramatically different when we were done with it and I’m so thrilled with the results.
How to Refinish a Wooden Dresser
A quick coat of chalk paint and new drawer pulls and this was like a new dresser. I really love watching older pieces of furniture become like new with a little refresh.
If your dresser needs to be sanded, you’ll want to do that first. We got lucky and didn’t need to with this piece. Look for any holes or scratches that need to be filled; you’ll want to fill them with wood putty and sand that down before you paint if needed.
We used a DIY chalk paint recipe because it was cheaper than store-bought. Chalk paint is great to work with and much easier to get a smooth coat, so it is a great choice if you are a beginner.
Total cost for this project was $40 for the dresser, $3 for each drawer pull, and about $15 in paint. That was way more affordable than buying new and we ended up with a unique and perfectly customized piece of furniture thanks to Facebook Marketplace.
DIY Chalk Paint Recipe
- 1/3 cup plaster of Paris
- 1/3 c water
- 1 c latex paint
We used a quart of paint and it was plenty. After it was dry, we did two coats of matte polycrylic.
I think this turned out beautifully and it makes me want to go hunting for my next great find on Facebook Marketplace.
Facebook Marketplace is my go-to during the holiday season, whether I need to redo a room before guests come, buy unique gifts or earn money selling items around my home to cover those holiday expenses.
