Finding the Perfect Date-Night Outfit

I spend a good portion of my life wearing jeans and t-shirts. With 6 kids, my clothes tend to be at the receiving end of a lot of thrown food and boogers so I play it safe and stick with clothes that I can throw in the wash without thinking twice about it.

Sometimes you just need to dress up a bit though and date-night is the perfect chance to do that. Our go-to date is either hitting a local restaurant or heading to the movies. With the new Nicholas Sparks movie, The Choice, coming out on February 5th (just in time for Valentine’s Day!) I know what our next date-night will be!

So how do you find the perfect date-night outfit?

Look for something you can’t wear everyday. Since I can usually wear anything beyond a t-shirt and jeans at home with toddler twins running around, I love the chance to wear something a bit dressier.

Dress in layers. I always get cold in the movie theatre so I like to dress in layers to make sure I won’t get chilled. I have a weird thing about wearing long-sleeves shirts though so I like to have a cardigan that I can put on and take off when I want.

Stay comfortable. Looking nice doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable. Especially if I’m watching a movie, I like to be able to settle down and relax. For this date-night outfit I choose a comfortable pair of skinny jeans. They still looked fairly dressy with the rest of what I was wearing but I was still nice and comfy.

Coordinate with your husband. Since my husband and I don’t dress up often we try and snap a quick picture when we do. We realized a few years ago that we hardly had any pictures of us together (and the ones that we did have were terrible) so taking a quick photo before date night has helped us remedy that.

Add some accessories. Wearing any accessories always makes me feel so much dressier. It’s amazing what throwing a necklace can do for dressing up an outfit. My kids tend to pull on jewelry so I don’t usually wear much around the house and it’s fun to get the chance to wear some of my favorites.
