Fun Gift for Boys – Qixels by Moose Toys
My boys are getting older and that makes them harder to shop for. They don’t play with most toys but at 8-12 years old they are still too young enough that they need something fun under the tree Christmas morning. That makes my holiday shopping list a bit of a challenge. I was thrilled to discover Qixels by Moose Toys because it was something I could see all 3 of my boys really getting into.
My boys, like most, like things that keep them busy. They want projects that let them get a bit creative. Moose Toys sent us several sets of Qixels — a Qixels Design Creator, Fuse Blaster, and Turbo Dryer. My boys were more than happy to jump in and test them out.
They got to work creating some fun characters using the templates that came with the kit. The concept behind this toy is simple — little Qixel cubes are placed on a board and then when they are exposed to water they merge together. These are nice sturdier pieces so it gives the end result a bold look. You can see them in action here.
Once they played with the templates, my kids branched out on their own and started creating their own patterns. I was so impressed with their creativity. They have had so much fun creating designs and displaying them with the stands that are included in the kits.
My boys loved the Turbo Dryer because it made drying each project so much easier (and more fun). You can use Qixels but it’s definitely a fun addition.
What really amazed me was just how long my kids played with the Qixels. We’ve had it set up on a table in my dining room for several days and my boys keep going back to it over and over again. It has kept them busy for hours on end, even my 12 year old who rarely plays with the same things his brothers do loved it.
My kids will probably be finding a few extra sets of Qixels under the Christmas tree this year. I loved having something that kept them all busy and didn’t involve any screen time . . . which is hard to do when kids get older.
Qixels can be found at Target, Toys R Us and other mass retailers. They range in price from $9.99 – $19.99.
