How to Get the Best Deal on Prescriptions
Finding the best deal on prescription medication can be overwhelming, especially if you are in an unfamiliar area. I was thrilled to partner with ScriptSave® WellRx to share a simple way you can save money on your prescription medication, without dealing with memberships, applications, or a time-consuming process.
One of my sons suffers from asthma and takes several daily medications to keep it under control. Most of the time, that isn’t an issue. We know where to get the best deal where we live. When you travel or move to a new area, things can get interesting, though.
A few years ago, my family was away on vacation when we realized we had forgotten one of my son’s medications. It wasn’t one he used all the time so it hadn’t been top priority when we were packing but when his asthma flared up during our trip, he needed it.
We had a few choices. We could go home (which wasn’t anyone’s favorite option). We could pay full price for the medication, since our insurance at the time didn’t cover out-of-state prescription refills. We could shop around for the best price on his medication in the area we were staying.
We opted for choice number three but it took hours and hours of calling different pharmacies and visiting a few that were close by before we found a reasonable price on his medication. Some pharmacies varied in price by over $75 so it was a big swing.
Hopefully you won’t find yourself in a similar situation during your next vacation, but if you do, there is an easier option. ScriptSave® WellRx is a fantastic option if you are uninsured, underinsured, have high deductibles, or are traveling in an area your insurance doesn’t offer coverage. Pharmacy prices can vary dramatically from one location to the next and can even change daily. If you know where to find the lowest price, you can save a huge amount of money.
ScriptSave® WellRx takes things a step further by negotiating a discounted rate for you. We tried it out recently and were very impressed.
Here is how the program worked for me when filling my son’s prescription:
- My insurance said I needed to pay $25 of the $100 total cost.
- When I asked the pharmacist what the ScriptSave WellRx cost was, I was told I would pay $14.20 for the same prescription.
It was actually less money for me to use the ScriptSave WellRx card than it was for me to go through my insurance, although your results may vary.
The app makes it really easy to compare prices on your prescription before you even leave the house. For my son’s prescription, the price I’d have to pay varied anywhere from $14.20 all the way up to $87.85, depending on which pharmacy I visited.
That’s a pretty big swing in pricing. Even with my insurance, ScriptSave WellRx (Use the Invite code “BusyMommy” to sign up for free) beat out the price I would have had to pay.
When you get to your pharmacy, all you have to do is pull up your digital ScriptSave WellRx card on the app to show the pharmacist and you’ll receive your medication at the discounted rate. You can’t use insurance and ScriptSave WellRx but you can check the pricing on each option and choose the one that makes the most sense.
This is such an easy way to save. There’s no membership fee, no application process, you just download the app and start saving.
ScriptSave WellRx provides support for patients and pharmacists. They have a dedicated toll-free number for each so if you have any questions or run into any problems, they are available to help.
