Baking doesn’t have to be saved for Christmas treats and cold winter days. My family loves making Halloween treats in the fall almost more than we love Christmas treats. I almost always throw a Halloween party, and I love making fun and easy Halloween-themed food that our friends can enjoy when we get together.

One of my party staples is donuts and hot chocolate.

I was gifted a donut maker one year and it may seem like a useless novelty gift, but they are really fast and easy to use. It has been a favorite kitchen appliance of mine ever since and perfect to use to make these Halloween cake donuts!

Halloween baking with Kids

My little girl has to share a lot of attention with her baby brother so I decided to have some mommy and me baking time.

She loved getting in on the fun and she was very excited to help mommy cook in the kitchen. She did make quite a mess but she loved it! I helped by cracking the egg and measuring but I let her pour everything in and stir it up. She was very proud of herself and it was pretty dang cute. Her favorite part was adding sprinkles to the donuts.

I think I will be letting her help me with more cooking from now on!

Having the one on one time was such a good bonding experience and she was in a very good mood after doing a fun activity and getting the attention she craves. Halloween donut making might have to be a new tradition in our family and I’ll definitely be cooking with the kids more often.

These Halloween cake donuts are seriously the easiest and fastest treats to make! Other than the cake mix and frosting you will need: a piping bag, a donut maker or donut baking pan, one egg, water, and oil. One box of cake mix will yield about 1 dozen donuts.

Halloween Cake Donut Ingredient

1/4 C vegetable oil
1 C water
1 egg
1 box Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Halloween Cake Mix
1 Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Halloween Vanilla Flavored Frosting

Instructions for Halloween Cake Donuts

Heat up your donut maker and spray it with cooking spray. Mix water, egg, cake mix, and oil together with a whisk until smooth.

Fill a large piping bag with your cake mix and snip off a half-inch opening at the end. Pipe mix into the donut maker and cook for about 3 minutes. Using a spoon, gently remove the donuts and cool them on a cooling rack.

Spoon frosting into a bowl and melt for 20-30 seconds to make it a glaze consistency. Dip your donuts into the glaze and immediately top with sprinkles. Let cool.

*Oven Instructions: Bake at 350 Degrees for about 10-13 minutes. When done they will be very lightly browned.
