How to Teach your Toddler to Stay in Bed
Thanks to Hatch Baby for Sponsoring this post.
Trying to get a toddler to stay in bed should be an olympic sport. With two toddlers in my house right now, bedtime is definitely not the easiest part of our day.
Don’t think it is hopeless though. After having 6 kids, we’ve learned a few tricks to help your toddler stay in bed (and help you get some much-needed down time).
One of the biggest challenges that comes when you transition your toddler to a big bed is getting them to stay in bed. Sure, there are other challenges that pop up, but that is definitely the most frustrating as a parent. With my twins, this has been extra frustrating because if one gets out of bed, the other twin decides to follow her lead.
Once kids have the freedom to get in and out of bed as they want they take full advantage of that.
With my oldest kids, I spent a lot of time sitting in the hallway outside their room trying to teach them to stay in bed.
Of course, getting them to fall asleep isn’t the only issue. I worried about them waking up before me and wandering the house. We used all kinds of tools like baby gates and door knob covers but that didn’t stop us from being woken up at insanely early hours of the morning by a toddler knocking on their bedroom door.
It may have taken me 6 kids to get there, but we finally found a solution that really works. Hatch Baby Rest is an amazing tool that every parent of a toddler needs to have on their side.
Hatch Baby Rest isn’t just a sound machine (although it does a great job at lulling your child to sleep with white noise). This night light/ sound machine / OK-to-Wake light that you can control from your phone.
This solves almost all your toddler sleep problems!
But Does it really work?
We’ve dealt with just about every possible sleep issue that could have come up in our 14 years as parents. The latest problem has left me exhausted and dreaming of the days when I can get a solid night’s sleep.
My twins have decided they are scared of the dark.
By itself, that’s a problem that we can deal with. The problem is, the want to sleep with the lights on. If we turn them off, one twin will hop up and switch them back on. I’ve tried sneaking into their room to switch the lights off but they wake up every single time.
With the lights on, they have no idea what time of night it is. That leaves me with twins waking up at 3 a.m. thinking it’s time for breakfast.
No Bueno.
Hatch Baby Rest not only provides them with a nightlight (with customizes hues and brightness) but it also gives them a visual cue that it’s time to wake up with the OK-to-Wake feature. In the morning, the light turns green to let your toddler know it is okay to get out of bed.
It takes a bit of practice but the Ok-to-Wake feature may be saving my sanity. We haven’t had either twin try and escape from their room in the middle of the night since starting to use the Hatch Baby Rest and my poor sleep deprived self greatly appreciates that.
Want to know the best part?
I love when companies really think through the details. When I found out that I could control the Hatch Baby Rest from my Phone I took a little moment to celebrate. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to sneak into my twins’ room to turn the light off or turn the volume down on their sound machine and ended up waking them up in the process.
With the Hatch Baby app I can set a program that fits our needs. We can schedule white noise for a few hours at night and set an OK-to-Wake time in the morning that won’t make us feel like zombies all day.
If that wasn’t good enough, they make it cute too
I love when you can customize things to help them fit your own unique style. Hatch Baby Rest has some adorable Coverlets you can choose from to match your nursery style.
My twins have discovered how easy they are to switch out and have taken it upon themselves to change the coverlet on a regular basis.
So many night lights and sound machines are kind of an eye sore in your nursery. The Hatch Baby Rest really adds a fun style element to it and makes it something that you want on display in your home.
I’ve been surprised at how loud the speaker can go if you want it to. The sound quality is actually pretty amazing for such a small unit.
I’m so excited at the possibility of some good sleep in our future. It’s been a long time coming in my house and we are looking forward to being well rested.

That looks so cute! I want one for my bedroom! LOL Does it come with preset music or can I upload some on it?
The Hatch Baby Rest is a nice idea. Would love to buy one for my 2 year-old boy.
