How to Make Summer Memories Sweeter

We like to keep things simple during the summer months so we can enjoy hanging out together as a family. We enjoy a lot of backyard BBQ’s, plenty of playing in the sprinklers, and as much bike riding as we can fit in.
Summer is an amazing time of year and the perfect time to create family memories. I hate thinking about how many summers I have left with each of my kids before they leave the house. It’s something that well-meaning friends and family like to remind me of every summer like clockwork and the thought mostly stresses me out rather than encouraging me to savor the moment. The truth is though, our time with our kids while they are young is finite.
So how do you make the most out of those summer days?
Don’t overthink things. Nothing spoils a summer day more than trying to make it perfect. Forget having a Pinterest worth summer BBQ or magazine quality home. Focus on the memories. Focus on the time that you spend together as a family. Some of our best memories have been the ones that aren’t planned. They just happen. I’ve learned to find more ways to just let those moments happen by lowering my own expectations of what each day is supposed to look like and focusing more on what my kids need.
Make memories sweeter with a treat. When I think of the summers I had growing up, there are often foods associated with each memory. I have some amazing memories, both as a child and now as a parent during the summer months. Each of those memories is made just a little sweeter with Budget Saver Twin Pops, a classic treat I enjoyed as a kid and now love to share with my own family.

My youngest two are twins so the idea of twin pops amused them. They are convinced that they are the best summer treat because they were made just for them.
They were so amused by them that they didn’t even care about splitting them apart.
Memories are always sweeter when shared with your sister.

Focus on what matters. I’m definitely guilty of getting caught up in the details. Instead of enjoying the time that I have with my kids I’ll get caught up with cleaning the house or planning for our next adventure. As moms, I know how easy it is to try and multi-task to the point that you don’t enjoy the moment. I’ve been there. As a parent, it’s important to remember that we don’t get these moments back. Put aside the details and focus on your kids. That’s what they will remember.
