M&M Kissed Pretzels
This simple version of chocolate covered pretzels can be made using only the microwave, which makes it easy for preschoolers to do all the cooking themselves. Preschoolers can easily make a homemade gift that their preschool teachers, friends, or neighbors will love.
Ingredients
Small Pretzels
M&M’s
Hershey’s Kisses
Preparation
Gather the Ingredients
Gather all of the ingredients together before getting started. Pour the M&M’s into a clean bowl. Remove the wrappers from the Hershey’s Kisses and place them in another bowl. Sort the pretzels and remove any broken ones.
Arrange the Pretzels
On a microwave safe plate, arrange 6 pretzels so that they are not touching each other. If you are unsure whether or not your plate is microwave safe look on the bottom. Many plates have a small logo on the bottom that tells you whether or not you can use it in the microwave. A small picture of a cup and a fork indicates that you can use the plate in the microwave.
Place one unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss on top of each pretzel. Try to place the Hershey’s Kiss as close to the center of the pretzel as you can so that it will not fall off the pretzel when the chocolate is melted.
Microwave the Pretzels
Place the plate with the pretzels in the microwave for 45 seconds or until the chocolate is melted. The Hershey’s Kisses will retain their shape when soft. The only way to know whether the chocolate is completely melted is by testing it with an M&M.
Some microwaves may require longer cooking time to melt the chocolate. The type of plate you use to make this recipe may also affect the cooking time. Metal or ceramic plates will require a shorter cooking time than plastic plates.
Add the Candy
Immediately after removing the pretzels from the microwave, carefully push one M&M into the center of the melted Hershey’s Kiss. Melted chocolate may be hot so be careful to keep your fingers out of the chocolate.
The chocolate will harden and cool quickly so you will want to work fast. If the chocolate cools before you insert the M&M, it will not push the chocolate all the way down. Mistakes still taste delicious so feel free to eat them as you work.
Once the chocolate cools completely, you can store your snacks in plastic containers to save for later or fill decorative containers with them to use as gifts. These attractive treats make wonderful gifts for friends, neighbors, or teachers and they are so simple to make that kids can make them completely on their own.
