Mom Central Grant Winners Announced

It’s been an interesting day at our house. We woke up knowing that Mom Central was choosing winners for the grant program that you have all been working so hard to help us win.

We were finalists but I honestly was preparing myself to be disappointed because I very rarely win anything and there were so many deserving bloggers in the running.

I started my day as I always do – got the kids up, dressed, and started on breakfast before I jumped on my computer to check my email/Twitter/Facebook. I had a DM on Twitter from Mom Central’s Eileen Calandro.

Hmmm. That sounded a bit suspicious but we’ve had a rough couple of years and I’ve learned that getting your hopes up for something too soon can be exhausting. I spent the day reasoning back and forth with myself. It could mean that I had won, but it could also mean that they wanted to let me down easy. I sent over my phone number and waited. I’m not ashamed to admit that I got nothing else done while I waited. Shortly before the official winners were announced I got a phone call from Eileen.

Thanks to all of your unwavering support over the last few months, we had won! I was shocked when we made it into the finalists. I was absolutely speechless to find out that we had actually won!

So what happens now?

Big things. Exciting things! As promised, all current writers will immediately get a raise. We’re working out the details on that but they’ve been working hard for less than they deserve for far too long and now that we have the ability to change that – we will.

And after that?

We get dozens of applications from moms every week asking to be considered for writing positions. Sadly, we have to turn nearly all of them down because we simply don’t have the budget. With the Mom Central Grant, we’ll be adding several new writers and possibly offering payment for guest contributors.

We’ll have details to you soon but we don’t want to rush into anything. I don’t consider this money “mine”. It belongs to the Busy Mommy Media community and I want to be sure that it’s spent wisely and helps us to develop a sustainable plan that will allow the growth of the site to cover higher writer payments once the Mom Central Grant has been spent.
