Need Help Making Sleep a Priority?

Do you remember the last time you got a really good night’s sleep?
As a mom of 6, sleep has been a constant challenge. I’ve found that even though my kids are (mostly) sleeping through the night now, I’ve developed such bad sleep habits over the years that I’m still not getting enough sleep.
I’m definitely not the mom I need to be when I’m tired. I realized a few years ago that I had just gotten in the habit of being tired. I was so used to be exhausted all the time due to lack of sleep that it felt normal to me.
Most of the complaints I had on a daily basis (headaches, being cranky, etc.) could all be tied back to lack of sleep though. That wasn’t something I just wanted to allow to become my new normal.
So what do you do if sleep has become an issue?
We’ve all heard great tips over the years for improving sleep quality (limit screen time, exercise more, set a consistent bedtime). I’ve tried all of them at one time or another.
The real trick is often motivating yourself to really make sleep a priority.
I notice a dramatic difference in the way I’m able to function when I get enough sleep. It makes me realize just how important it is to make sleep a priority.
Sleep is so important for all of us though, especially moms who have a lot on their plates.
If you struggle with sleep issues, you definitely aren’t alone. I suffered from severe insomnia after my twins were born. For me, I know stress and hormones were definitely factors. I went from having preemie twins after a rough pregnancy to having my toddler hospitalized after a near drowning accident.
I’m lucky I ever slept again!
