6 Simple Ways to Take Charge of your Health

We are hitting that point in the year where New Year’s Resolutions are long-since forgotten. All those weight loss and health goals you were aiming for probably fizzled out. The thing is, taking charge of your health is such an important issue that we can’t let those goals just be set aside. I know for me, as a mom of 6, getting in shape and staying healthy is more about being able to do the things I need to with my kids than fitting into a bikini and that is way more motivating to me.
Making healthy changes can be hard though. I get that. It’s something I struggle with every single day. I always like to start small. Form a habit. Once you do that you can build on it. Those small changes really can add up.
So how can you take charge of your health today? Here are a few of our favorite places to start:
Go to sleep. Most moms I know don’t get nearly enough sleep. My kids are mostly sleeping through the night at this point but with 6 kids I don’t get a lot of downtime so I take full advantage of that post-bedtime part of the night to relax. I end up staying up way too late most of the time and since my kids get up very early I’m usually tired. Just go to sleep. Even if you start with going to bed just 15 minutes earlier or going to bed early one night a week. Your body needs it and I promise, you will feel the difference.
Take your Vitamins. In a perfect world I’d get all my nutrients from a completely well-balanced diet. In the world I actually live in, a lot of meals are eaten on the go and by dinnertime I’m often too tired to cook what I’d really like to eat. That leaves me feeling run down.
Taking vitamins that support your health goals can do so much for the way you feel. I’ve been using an assortment of vitamins from Nature Made® that I found at my local Walmart. Nature Made is the best selling brand for vitamins* and I love that they can help support nutritional gaps.Â
I’ve just worked it into my morning routine so that I don’t forget to take them. I know that when I wake up, I eat breakfast, take my vitamins, and unload the dishwasher. The routine of it has become habit.Â

Let go of stress. There’s always something to be stressed about it. Life is going to be stressful from time to time. The key is, learning how to deal with it in a way that is healthy. Delegate tasks that you can. Take time for yourself even when things are busy. Practice thinking positive. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you find a stress-relief technique that works for you so your stress level doesn’t affect your health.
Get moving. There are all kinds of fitness plans out there. They are awesome if you are ready for them. If you aren’t, keep it simple. Just get moving any way you can. Go for a short walk every day. Dance around the house to your favorite song. Run around the park with your kids. The more you move, the more you will want to move.
