7 Healthy Habits Every Mom Should Have
This post was sponsored by Nature Made® as a part of an Ambassador Program for Influence Central.
I love fall but around this time of year I always start feeling a bit run down. I think it’s a combination of busy schedules keeping me on my toes and shorter days making me sleepy.
Whatever it is, I’ve found that I usually need to make some effort to make sure I feel my best.
These 7 habits are essential for every busy mom. I know that when I’m tired and overwhelmed, I’m usually slacking off on one of these.
Stay Hydrated
Do you know if you are drinking enough water? Most moms I know don’t drink nearly enough water, myself included. I know that I get distracted and forget to drink throughout the day. The days when I make it a priority to get enough water, I can’t believe how much better I feel. Set a reminder on your phone if you need to. Leave yourself a note.
You can change things up by flavoring your water with fruit or herbs. A few of my favorite combinations are:
- Cucumber and mint
- Cucumber and limes
- Strawberries and limes
- Blueberries and raspberries
Get Enough Sleep
Getting enough sleep is the best thing you can do for yourself, especially when life gets a bit crazy. I know that I’m always better equipped to deal with whatever the current chaos is if I’ve had a good night’s sleep. As a mom, this starts by making sure your kids get to bed at a decent hour. If they go to bed late, you will definitely stay up too late. I need that quiet time after the kids go to bed and I know that I’ll take it no matter what time my kids get to sleep.
Start with going to bed just 30 minutes earlier and do your best to move your bedtime back from there. If you have trouble falling asleep, try turning off electronics at least an hour before you go to sleep and exercising earlier in the day.
Taking Time for Yourself
Taking time for yourself is essential if you want to stay healthy, both physically and emotionally. When you are run down, it’s harder to keep up with the demands of everyday life and it’s easy to get run down when you aren’t meeting your own needs. Take the time to work on a hobby, read a book, or go out with a friend at least once a week.
Take a good supplement
I try and take some good supplements on a regular basis. When I forget, I can really feel the difference. One of the things that I’ve added to my routine recently is a daily probiotic. The more I learn about how much your digestive health affects the rest of your body, the more committed I am to making sure I do whatever I can to keep it in check. Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist Recommended brand for many key dietary supplement categories*”

I take 2 capsules in the morning with my breakfast and I’m set for the day. I always find great prices on Nature Made® at Walmart so I just stock up when I’m picking up whatever else I need for the week.
I can also grab my other supplements at Walmart. Nature Made® vitamins and supplements are an easy, convenient way to help your body get the nutritional support it needs every day, whether it be to support bone health, immune health or energy metabolism (helping convert food into energy).†

Smile More Often
We’ve all heard the term “fake it ’till you make it”. It turns out, there’s actually a lot of truth to that. Getting into the habit of smiling more often can help you feel happier (and you’ll cheer up people around you too). If you aren’t in the habit of smiling, it may take some work to develop the habit but it will be worth it. I always feel an immediate boost to my mood when I smile.
Learn to Let Go
As moms, we stress. It comes with the job. Learning to deal with your stress in a healthy way is so important for your physical health. If you find yourself stressed out more often than you’d like, look into some new ways to deal with stress. Try exercise, changing your routine, talking to a friend, or doing what you can to change the situation that is causing you the most stress.
Meal planning
You can’t make sure that you (and your family) are eating healthy meals if you are always throwing things together at the last minute. Set aside some time at the beginning of each week to plan your menu and create a grocery list. Having things scheduled will help you stay on track with your healthy eating goals and it will save you a lot of stress when dinnertime comes around.
