Amp up your Halloween Lighting with Philips Hue
Great Halloween decorations really set the mood for an amazing holiday. This year, we are taking our Halloween lighting to the next level with a little help from Philips Hue, our sponsor for today’s post. With some fabulous options for Halloween mood lighting, Hue makes it so easy to set the perfect Halloween ambiance. Take a look at our Halloween porch decor and how it’s going to add a very festive element to our home this year.

I love decorating for the holidays. I used to work in residential treatment. We had kids that we served that had been through some pretty rough things in their lives. One of the therapists I worked with told me that she believed one of the best things we could do for our children was to really make a big deal out of celebrating each holiday. Decorating and establishing family traditions helps a family grow closer together and helps kids feel the progress of time throughout the year. It was her opinion, that doing these things could help prevent so many issues that teenagers dealt with.

Taking her advice, I’ve always tried to decorate for each holiday. Seeing how much fun my twin toddlers have had this year watching the Halloween decorations go up has reaffirmed how important it is to celebrate all the milestones in life and really work on creating fun memories.
Philips Hue makes it easy to create the ultimate haunted house. With several different lighting options, and 16 million colors to choose from, it is simple to find the perfect color to scare (or delight) trick-or-treaters.
You can use Hue to make movie nights more fun. On Halloween night, as trick-or-treating wraps up, we have a tradition of watching a Halloween movie together as a family. This year, we are excited to use the Hue Sync app (available for Windows 10 PCs or macOS computers), which will sync our Hue lights to the movie, and definitely adds a fun element.
Now, let’s take a look at how we are setting the mood for Halloween on our porch. The Philips Hue Go is a rechargeable, portable accent light that we’ve used as a nightlight in my girls’ rooms for several years. They love it because they choose any color light they want before bedtime.

We thought it would be fun to work this right into our Halloween display. To add a fun element, we added a vinyl spider sticker to the front.
I loved the way it made the vinyl sticker glow.

The Philips Hue Go has a rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 3 hours depending on use. We added to the porch display and set out a second Hue Go light in the window with additional Hue lighting to add extra color and give us more options when setting up a light show. (The Philips Hue Go is not waterproof, so we just need to bring the one on our porch back inside at the end of the evening, depending on the weather.)

Hue gives you 16 million colors of light to choose from, so you can set any mood that you want. The Hue app (available for iOS / Android) makes it so easy to get exactly the look that you want.
We used it to add red light behind the black widow spider vinyl sticker that we put onto our Hue Go light.

We could have left things exactly as they were. But we have teenagers who like to play with things.

Hue Labs (accessible within the Hue app) has pre-programmed formulas to easily turn your home into the ultimate haunted house. My teens (and my husband) had so much fun setting this up. They were able to customize things, to give trick-or-treaters a scare by using frightening sound effects, and ours deserve it after stealing my candy bowl last year. I’m not bitter . . .
These special Halloween lighting formulas create lightning effects that rotate through haunting colors at adjustable intervals.
You also have the option to use compatible, third-party apps like Hue Haunted House (available for iOS / Android) and Hue Halloween (available for iOS / Android) to add haunting sounds to lighting effects, like creaky haunted houses and werewolves in the forest sounds.
The end result is so fun, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction on Halloween night. My girls spent hours last night just watching my front porch . . . until they got scared.
