Delicious Duo: Heart Beignets with Chocolate

Heart Beignets with Chocolate are the perfect homemade treat for Valentine’s Day, adding a special touch to the celebration with their delightful heart shape and no-fuss preparation.

Years ago my husband came home from a trip to New Orleans with a few boxes of beignet mix from Cafe Du Monde, a New Orleans coffee shop with something nearing a cult following. I had no idea what they were at the time but these light, fluffy donut-like treats were one of the best things I’d ever eaten.

This recipe for homemade Beignets with chocolate looks a lot harder to make than it really is and it is the perfect treat for Valentine’s Day or any other time of the year.

What are Beignets?

Beignets are fluffy, pillow-like pastries that are a more elevated cousin to doughnuts. They originated in France but when French settlers made their way to Louisiana in the 18th century, they brought beignets with them, planting them firmly in New Orleans’ culinary scene.

They quickly became a beloved local treat that gained popularity with New Orleans visitors from all over the world.

You can order Cafe Du Monde beignet mix online if you want to enjoy the original at home, but the beignet recipe you’ll find below is a close second.

Disney fans may know them better as the Mickey Mouse-shaped Beignets that have a huge following at Disney parks.

Beignets are often dusted with powdered sugar and served hot. They can be drizzled with chocolate, fruit sauce, or caramel and are delicious.

Lay on a paper towel and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
