Egg Carton Color Matching
This simple color matching game teaches valuable math skills and it is easy for preschoolers to make themselves. Preschoolers will learn the importance of recycling materials that may otherwise be thrown away.
What You Need
Empty egg cartons (1/2 a carton for each preschooler)
6 colors of paint
6 colors of matching construction paper
large craft sticks
tape
A small knife
scissors
What To Do
Cut an empty egg carton in half and give one half to each preschooler. You can ask the parents to contribute by saving an empty egg carton and sending it to school with their preschooler. Have the preschoolers choose 6 colors of paint and paint the underside of each egg container a different color. The paint may mix together a bit. If you want to avoid this, allow the paint to dry before painting the adjoining egg container.
While the paint is drying, use a small cup to trace a circle on corresponding paint colors. Cut out the circles and tape them to large craft sticks.
Parent or Teacher Participation
Using a skinny knife, make holes in the top of each egg container just large enough to fit the craft stick.
How To Play
Remove all the colored circles attached to craft sticks. Have preschoolers practice matching the colored circles to the corresponding colored egg container. This makes a wonderful math center or quiet game.
