Find out Why We LOVE Osmo!
With 6 kids, we have played with (and tripped over) a lot of toys. It takes a lot for a toy to impress me. Well, I’ve found a new favorite and my kids agree.
I’ve heard great things about Osmo, a learning toy that integrates with the iPad, and after trying it first hand with my kids I’m going to be singing it’s praises too.
The Osmo genius kit comes with the base, which is what you need to use to play all the games, the numbers kit, words kit, and tangram kit.
There are several other apps that don’t require additional pieces that you can play as well.
We were really excited about the tangram kit so we decided to check that out first.
Osmo says it is for ages 5 and up. I assumed that there was some wiggle room on that so I put my 4 year old to work playing with the Tangram game first. It was definitely too hard for her. There were a few apps and levels she could do with help but my 8 year old was clearly more of the target here.
Even my almost 13 year old got in on the action and since then all 3 of my boys (ages 8-13ish) have been fighting over who gets to play with Osmo.
The pieces are very simple but don’t let that fool you. There are nearly endless gameplay options.
As a parent, I loved how engaged my kids were. The games really made them think so even though they were using a screen, it was so interactive that I didn’t really look at it as “screen time”.
You can set the games to be as easy or as challenging as you want. You can earn rewards as you solve puzzles and my boys got really into it.
I’m sure we are going to get LOTS of use out of OSMO throughout the summer and beyond. My kids are fascinated by the technology and the games keep them really engaged.
