Homemade Southern BBQ Sauce
My family LOVES BBQ sauce. I have one child who will literally eat just about anything as long as you put barbecue sauce on it. I’m picky about the barbecue sauce I’ll buy though and most of the store bought brands are filled with high fructose corn syrup and other extra goodies. I played around though and came up with this homemade BBQ sauce while I was creating our Loaded BBQ Chicken Salad and it’s so easy that I don’t know if I’ll ever buy barbecue sauce again. The flavor on this is AMAZING! You won’t miss that store bought barbecue sauce at all with this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 can tomato sauce (15 ounce can)
- 3/4Â cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup tomato paste
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp. liquid smoke
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. onion powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
Prep work is super simple on this. Mix all the ingredients together and simmer in a pot on low for about 30 min. to let the flavors blend together.
You’ll want to stir this frequently so it doesn’t stick to the pot.
Store in a glass jar once cooled. This should keep in the fridge for about a week (if it lasts that long).
