Simplify Back-to-School and Be a Classroom Hero
Thank you to Kleenex® Facial Tissue for sponsoring this blog post.
Back-to-School is such an exciting time of the year, but it definitely comes with some challenges, especially for those of you who are teachers. Are you looking for ways to simplify back-to-school and become a classroom hero? We have some tips that will put you on every teacher’s good list.
Heading back to school is always exciting but, as a parent, it is definitely a little stressful too. I have kids attending 4 different schools and trying to juggle everything is a bit crazy.
I’ve found some tricks that help the whole school year go smoother. Simplifying things for myself at the beginning of the school year sets us up for success and helps us head into that first day of school with a much calmer attitude.
I try to remember that this time of year is even crazier for my kids’ teachers. I like to do what I can to make their lives easier by marking important dates on my calendar (my digital calendar and our large family calendar) as soon as I hear about them. I also keep an eye out for deals that could be helpful to them in the classroom and stock up, especially when I see Kleenex® Facial Tissue on sale.
Last winter, my daughter’s teacher sent a desperate plea out to parents to send more tissues. The kids had cleaned out the entire stash that was sent in at the beginning of the school year.
Fortunately, I had stocked up on several large packages of Kleenex® Facial Tissue from Costco at the beginning of the year and set them aside for such an occasion. My daughter was impressed that I could respond to her teacher’s request so quickly (win for mom) and I’m sure her teacher appreciated the quick response.
This year, I’m doing the same thing because I know that mid-year I’ll get at least one request from a teacher needing more tissues. I always send some in at the beginning of the year but I have more space to store things than our teachers do in their classrooms so I stash some away for later too.
My twins will be starting kindergarten so I know that means double the supply requests so I’m planning on being prepared.
Shop at Costco and Save
From August 7th through September 1st, Costco members can save $4.50 on the Kleenex® Facial Tissue bundle pack. This is the perfect way to be prepared for future classroom needs. I’m buying several packages and setting some aside for later in the school year.
The Kleenex® Facial Tissue bundle packs are also available at Costco online, which is an even easier option if you want to keep things simple.
Be a Classroom hero and make sure your child’s classroom has the essential products they need. When parents don’t provide these things, most teachers end up purchasing them out of their own budgets and I hate to have that happen.
Look for the Kleenex® Facial Tissue Made to Give More bundles at Costco. They have 10-12 boxes per bundle with 43% more tissues per box than the best-selling Kleenex® Facial Tissue boxes available in other stores so they are perfect for sharing with your children’s teachers.
How to simplify back-to-school
Shop for back-to-school clothes early. The stores get a bit crazy in the weeks before school starts. Cut out the chaos by having your kids choose a back-to-school outfit early. We do our shopping in mid-July. We can still take advantage of some great sales but we don’t have to fight the crowds. I have my kids choose one new outfit. They already have so many clothes that we usually aren’t in a rush to buy an entirely new wardrobe. We save the bulk of our clothing shopping for a few weeks after school when clothing prices are even lower and the crowds have thinned out.
Shop for back-to-school supplies late. This may seem counterintuitive but I like to do most of my back-to-school supply shopping after school starts. Our schools don’t share school supply lists until after the school year starts and my high schoolers don’t know what they need until they get into their classes. I stock up on the basics like pencils, paper, notebooks, etc. when I see them at a great price but for everything else, I wait until we know exactly what we need. That saves me from buying a bunch of extra supplies that will go unused and prevents me from having to head back to the store several times to get all the odds and ends that we may have missed. We usually have enough of the basics around the house that my kids are taken care of for the first week of school anyway. By waiting to shop until we know what we need, I save myself a lot of extra trips to the store and quite a bit of money.
Stock up on basics you’ll need year-round. You know you are going to have a kid tell you, right before bedtime, “I need a poster board by tomorrow” at least once during the school year. Be kind to yourself and just grab a few while they are on sale at the beginning of the year. I always stock up on those “extras” I know I’m going to need like poster board, tissues, pencils, and shoeboxes (save those boxes from your kids’ new school shoes).
Knowing that we are prepared helps me feel more confident as we head into a new school year. I hope these tips help you simplify your back-to-school season.
