Simplify BBQ Cleanup with S.O.S. Pads

There’s nothing like great barbecue but BBQ cleanup is one of those kitchen chores that makes everyone scatter once the food has been eaten. S.O.S. pads found at Walmart make the cleanup way easier so you can get back to enjoying your day.

We have been grilling on an almost daily basis over the last few months. It’s a great distraction from the events going on in the world and it just makes an ordinary dinner feel more like an event.

We’ve added a smoker to our patio to up our game (you haven’t lived until you’ve tried smoked cobbler) but grilling and smoking on a daily basis has really made cleanup a serious chore.
BBQ messes really stick on there and it takes some serious elbow grease to get them off. We’ve found that using S.O.S. pads as part of our BBQ cleaning routine makes clean up so much easier.

I’m a big fan of anything that saves me time cleaning up. I love being able to clean up quickly so I can get back to enjoying my family.
Clean cast iron pans with S.O.S. Pads

I LOVE my cast iron pans but when I started using them on the smoker I realized that my old cleaning routine wasn’t cutting it. Those barbecue messes were really stuck on my pans.
The best way I’ve found to clean them is to use S.O.S. pads. S.O.S. pads are soap-filled steel wool pads so they work great on really tough BBQ messes. I scrub my cast iron pans down and let them sit for a few minutes to start to break up the grease. Once the grease has begun to break down, I get in there and really scrub with the S.O.S. pads to get through the layers of cooked-on BBQ mess.
Clean baking sheets with S.O.S. Pads

My baking sheets always had a cloudy look after the first few uses. It bugged me but I figured that was just the way things go … until I saw a friend’s perfectly shiny baking sheets and she told me that she cleaned hers with S.O.S. pads to keep them shiny.

This tip is especially important after using your baking sheets for greasy burgers. We always pull things off our grill and onto a baking sheet but that grease can be hard to get off. I use S.O.S. pads in a circular motion to get my baking sheets back to their shiny selves.
Clean the grill grate with S.O.S. pads

The grill grate is one of the hardest things to clean after grilling. Everything gets so baked onto the grate and the shape makes it really hard to clean. We love to make smoked cobbler but they make a huge mess as they bubble over and fruit cooks into bars of the grate.

It’s a huge mess but it’s always worth it.

S.O.S. pads get all the way around the bars perfectly and pick up all that baked-on grease. I’d recommend wearing gloves if you have them while doing this because you really need to scrub to get the grill clean and those fibers can work their way into your fingers.
I wet the S.O.S. pad a bit, so it can start to lather up.

Then I like to stretch out the pad just enough that I can tuck it between the bars of the grate and slide it up and down the bar. I find that’s the easiest way to get it really clean.

We like to crank the heat up on the grill first and cook off any leftover food then, once it cools, pull the grate out and scrub it with S.O.S. pads.
Clean the sink with S.O.S. pads

The kitchen sink takes the brunt of most messes in the kitchen and often it can get stained and just end up looking grimy. S.O.S. pads do a fantastic job of making the sink nice and clean.

Since sinks are made of different materials, I’d spot test somewhere inconspicuous before using S.O.S. pads the first time. Mine is a white poured sink and S.O.S. pads work amazingly well for getting stains out.
Clean the picnic table with S.O.S. pads
Do you have a patio picnic table? We have a heavy duty plastic and metal one and sometimes between the greasy messes and outside dust it really just needs a good cleaning. S.O.S. pads are one of the only options that really get into all of the crevices. As with the kitchen sink, picnic tables are made of all kinds of different materials, so be sure and spot test with your S.O.S. pad before cleaning. Use the S.O.S. pad in a circular motion to get the table clean. They work great on any rust spots you may have on your table as well. If your table is wood, you won’t want to use S.O.S. pads on a painted finish, but they do a great job if you need to sand down any minor imperfections on your table too!
We love keeping S.O.S. pads on hand for those tough jobs that come up when we are grilling. They make our time barbecuing so much more relaxing because we know that we can simplify clean up with S.O.S. pads.
