Teach your Teen to Play Guitar From Home with Fender
Thank you Fender for sponsoring this post. Learn guitar at home with Fender Play.
Learning to play an instrument is an amazing skill but it is often expensive and time consuming to take lessons. Fender has an amazing new platform that allows your teen (or you) to learn how to play the guitar on your own schedule and from the comfort of your own home. This amazing resource is like having a guitar teacher available 24/7 and is the perfect way to help teens learn how to play the guitar.

My teenager has been asking to take guitar lessons for several years. We satisfied him with a few sporadic piano lessons with a friend but our schedule was so hectic that we couldn’t keep those up and I started to worry that we were going to miss the window where he was excited about learning how to play an instrument.
At 14, I’m realizing just how quickly the years are going by and it won’t be long before he’s out of the house and off to bigger things. I want to make sure he doesn’t have any regrets about his teen years. Since playing the guitar has been one of his top goals for a while, I wanted to make sure he had the chance to learn.
The problem is, how do you find a way to pay for lessons and find the time to get kids back and forth to their lessons. It all gets a little overwhelming.
Fender has solved that with their new Fender Play online guitar lessons. They have amazing instructors and the course lets you choose your path, set your own pace, and go back to rewatch anything you need a little extra help with.
My son has had almost no music experience and Fender Play had him playing a song by the end of his very first day.
My son has been loving the program and I’ve found him pulling his guitar out every spare minute he has. His go-to when he had a few minutes was pulling out his phone to play games — not my favorite way for him to spend his time. Now he’s learning how to play the guitar in those fringe moments of his day and I love listening to him play while I work around the house.
How Does Fender Play Work?
Fender Play offers self paced lessons that help teens (and adults) learn how to play the guitar at their own pace. They have some amazing world-class teachers (we’ve liked all of them) and the video quality is amazing. They use top-quality 4K multi-camera video production.
In the past, when we’ve tried to learn something from home, we head straight to YouTube. The problem with using YouTube to learn how to play the guitar is the quality of videos is hit and miss and there’s no consistency. Fender Play takes you through everything you need to know, step by step, to learn how to play the guitar.
You choose the learning path you’d like to follow. You can select acoustic or electric guitar and then choose the style of music you’d like to learn how to play. I loved that because, with teens especially, they are so much more likely to get excited about playing if they are able to play the type of music they like.
You can change your path anytime you’d like or go back and rewatch lessons if you need a bit of extra help.
My son has downloaded the Fender Play app on his phone so he can play anytime or stream it to the TV if he wants to watch it on a larger screen.
He absolutely loves the song selection. They have so many songs he can learn how to play. As a beginner, he’s working up to many of them but there are quite a few he’s been able to master after just spending a few weeks going through the lessons.
As a mom, it’s so fun to be able to watch him learn. He’s so proud of himself as he masters a new song or a new skill and I love seeing him so excited about something. My hope is that his newfound guitar skills will be something he continues to improve on and uses for the rest of his life.
