Study.com Online Subscription for Homeschoolers
There are a lot of supplemental homeschool subscription services out there and they are fantastic but sometimes you just need to know you are covering all the material that kids need to know for their grade level. Study.com offers full courses that are fantastic for making sure you have everything covered. We add in a few reading and writing assignments and this is a nearly complete curriculum that feels very robust. The best part is the videos in the lessons are so engaging that my kids actually ask to do this.
Study.com has course material for grades K-12 and beyond with career certification and test prep. The bulk of the variety of their classes seems to be 6th-12th grade but the younger grade levels still have some great core classes (language arts, math, social studies, and science). My 3rd and 5th graders find plenty to do on Study.com and have learned so much, while my older teens are currently using it for ACT test prep. Whatever you need, they have such a huge variety of courses that you’ll find exactly what your student needs to succeed.
The Night Zookeeper program is a comprehensive educational subscription service for homeschooling families. Developed by a team of education professionals, the program is designed to engage and motivate young learners with interactive activities and engaging stories that bring learning to life. The curriculum includes spelling, grammar, and writing skills. While this is not a full curriculum it is a fantastic language arts supplement. Each element of the program is designed to be highly interactive and encourages a sense of exploration, discovery, and creativity.
My girls loved the storytelling element in this. Kids can create their own characters and include them in games and stories. The program includes writing prompts and games that help kids practice grammar, writing, and sentence structure. I had a few reluctant writers before we tried this program out and now they love writing stories.
Epic
I decided at the very beginning of our homeschooling journey that as long as my kids were reading I was doing my job. My kids could read all day though, which is amazing, and I, unfortunately don’t always have all day. Epic, while not a full curriculum, is a great reading supplement. This app includes books that are read to your child and books that they can read themselves. My kids especially love this on the weeks we can’t get to the library because they have easy access 40K+ books, audiobooks, and videos (which are much safer than using YouTube Kids).
Brain Pop
BrainPop was one of the first things we discovered when my older boys (now teens) first started homeschooling years ago and it got us hooked on the idea of child-led learning. My kids jump on here and discover so many new things. BrainPop has entertaining videos on nearly every subject and it includes quizzes, printable activities, and online activities to supplement the videos.
My 17-year-old still credits his love of science to watching BrainPop videos when he was in elementary school.
Code Spark Academy
For kids who are looking for some basic coding lessons, Code Spark Academy is a great choice. My kids have subscribed to this for several years and the game-based coding lessons and games make STEM topics seem really approachable. My kids beg to play this and I love that they can get some iPad time doing something that is educational.
