Traveling with your pet? We have some tips to help your next road trip go much smoother for the whole family, including your 4-legged traveling companion.
You never know what is going to happen while traveling, especially when you have your pet on the road with you. We have learned to expect the unexpected and be prepared for almost anything. Our dog frequently travels with us, and that adds another element to our travel prep. We want to make sure everyone stays safe on the road so we’ve always make sure that we are prepared for whatever comes up while we are traveling.
Plan plenty of travel breaks. Everyone needs to get out and stretch their legs while traveling, especially your 4-legged traveling companion. Plan your trip out in advance so you have an idea of the best places to stop. Some pit stops even have small dog parks that are perfect for getting some energy out when you stop. My dog is always calmer in the car when he has a chance to wear himself out.
Bring your dog’s bed. If you have space in the car, bring your dog’s bed or a small comfort item. Your dog will be much more relaxed if he has something familiar. Our dog has a bit of anxiety and, as much as he loves riding in the car, the change in routine can sometimes upset him. He loves to hop up on the seat and sit with my kids for part of the trip but he always ends up back in his bed where he is more comfortable . . . unless he is trying to steal one of the kids’ carseats.
Make a few practice trips. If your dog isn’t used to being in the car, start off with a few short trips before you hit the road. Once your dog has some practice being in the car, a longer road trip should be easier for everyone.
Bring a first aid kit for everyone. Most of us keep a small first aid kit in our cars for emergencies, but what your dog? The unexpected often happens when you are traveling and it is important to be prepared for an emergency, with your family or your pet. The Get Ready Now’s Pups & Peeps Road Combo Pack is unlike any other vehicle accessory or travel and outdoor essential on the market. The packs are waterproof, clear and the gear and supplies are ready to use with batteries installed. When time is of the essence, having everything ready to use makes all the difference! Other vehicle kits provide tools to take care of the car – not yourself and your dog!
This kit includes supplies needed to take care of your family and your pet. It includes some great essentials including an extra leash, collapsable water dish, emergency supplies and more. I feel so much more prepared, knowing that we are ready for whatever happens while we travel. It lets us focus on enjoying our trip and making some amazing memories as a family. I love that the bag is clear so you can see everything. It’s durable too, so it can handle getting tossed around a bit in the car.
The next time you travel with your pet, make sure you are prepared. A little advanced planning can help your trip go smoother for everyone.
