Top 10 Places to Hide the Halloween Candy from Yourself
We’ve all done it. You’re feeling ambitious so you buy the Halloween candy ahead of time, proud that you won’t have to scour the shelves at the last minute only to find huge bags of Tootsie Rolls. Then, just days after you make that productive first step towards staying on top of the holidays . . . you eat all the candy.
Some years I’ve had to buy the Halloween candy three times before I made it to the big day. So is the solution to just buy all Halloween candy at the last minute?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t need that stress when I’m trying to enjoy the holiday with my family and that method makes it tricky to save money by using coupons.
So, you hide it from yourself.
I know, easier said than done, right? You hide it too well and you don’t find it until next Halloween. Don’t hide it well enough and you are making another trip back to the store.
Here are our top 10 places to hide Halloween candy:
10. Send it with your hubby to work – assuming that he doesn’t have as much of a sweet tooth as you do. He’ll have to hide it from sugar craving coworkers but if he’s got a spot to tuck the candy away until Halloween then you won’t have to think about it until you’re ready to dish out the goodies to trick-or-treaters.
9. Put it in the freezer. Some candy is tastier when it’s frozen but it does take a little more work to eat so you can’t go through a bag quite as quickly. You’ll have to make sure that the candy you freeze won’t have any texture changes when you thaw it but if you can tuck it behind some mystery freezer meal chances are you won’t think of it until the end of the month.
8. On top of a tall piece of furniture – preferably one you have to use a chair to reach the top of. The more effort it takes you to get into the Halloween candy, the less likely you are to dig in when you are feeling snacky. Be sure your furniture is anchored to the wall though just in case your kids decide to try and get the candy themselves.
7.In a sealed Food Saver bag. You’ll have to cut open the bag to get into it so you can’t just sneak a piece or two. If you do end up cracking the bag open, you’ll have to use up another bag and that’s usually incentive enough to stop me from giving in to my sweet tooth.
6. In plain sight – but put your kids on “candy watch”. Kids are likely to sneak candy that is left out, but if it’s still in the sealed bag and you tell them that you aren’t allowed to eat any candy then they will likely get a kick out of policing you.
5. In the truck of your car. If you live in an area that isn’t too hot in October, the truck of your car can make an excellent candy hiding spot. It will take you a few extra steps if you want to sneak into the candy and since it isn’t quickly accessible you’ll have a few extra minutes to change your mind about sneaking some candy.
4. Have someone else hide it from you. If you don’t know where it is, you can’t eat it. Just make sure they have some great ideas for hiding spots and that they will remember where they put it (I still have a large bag of peanut M&M’s floating around my house somewhere because of that one).
3. Store it in your suitcase. We keep our suitcases in an out of the way storage room so they take some real work to get into. An unused suitcase provides plenty of storage space and provided you keep it somewhere that isn’t readily accessible you aren’t likely to be reminded that it’s there.
2. Hide it in your bathing suit drawer. Really, who is going to eat candy when looking directly at the thing that will show off those extra pounds?
1. Hide it at a neighbor’s house. They won’t eat your candy because it doesn’t belong to them and you can’t get to it without admitting that you’re giving in to your sweet tooth. Maybe offer to hold the neighbor’s candy at your house to make it a fair trade if you can trust yourself not to eat something that doesn’t belong to you.

So funny! We bought some snickers a few weeks ago. I told no one to touch them and they sat on the counter for a while. Then…I ate them. 🙁
I have learned from experience not to buy my candy until Halloween day or else I will eat it. Especially if it’s Reeses Peanut Butter Cups:)
This is pretty funny! We never open our Halloween candy until that day or else it gets eaten. I am thinking I might bring the leftovers to work this year!
