Instant Pot Hamburger Orzo Soup
There’s nothing like a huge, comforting bowl of soup during the winter. I can think of few things better than sitting around the kitchen table with a bowl of homemade soup and relaxing with my family.
This Homemade Hamburger Orzo Soup is so easy to throw together in the Instant Pot. I love that this tastes like it has been cooking all day long.

This soup reminds me a bit of quick lasagna soup. I love having a big pot of this in the fridge because the leftovers are just as good the next day. It’s perfect for a quick, light lunch.
We throw some cheese on this for my kids (and, who am I kidding, I love it with cheese) and it is delicious.
If you haven’t tried cooking with an Instant Pot yet, you need to give it a try. I promise, it is such a huge time-saver. I use mine so often I bought a second pot so I could do side dishes or larger quantities. My Instant Pot is used nearly every single day and I have no idea what I did before I discovered this glorious little pot.

I have the Instant Pot 7-in-1 and the Instant Pot 6-in-1 and honestly, I love them both equally. The 7-in-1 has a yogurt setting that I have never used so each pot gets equal use around my house. If you are interested in making yogurt, go for the 7-in-1. If not, you can save a few bucks going with the 6-in-1.
From my experience, (and I’ve used them both A LOT), they work almost exactly the same.
Ready to put your Instant Pot to work and make some Hamburger Orzo Soup?
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 teaspoon  salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced celery
- 1/2 cup diced carrot
- 1/2 cup corn
- 28 oz can diced tomatoes
- 32 oz beef stock
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 cup dry orzo pasta
- shredded mozzarella cheese
- fresh parsley (optional)

Preparation
Set your Instant Pot on the Sauté setting.
Throw in your hamburger and cook until it is nearly brown. I love that I can do this all in one pot when I use my Instant Pot.
When the hamburger is close to being cooked, throw in your onions, celery, carrot, and corn.
Let that cook for a few minutes then add in the stock, tomatoes, bay leaves, salt, and pepper.
Close your Instant Pot and set it to cook for 25 minutes.
Then walk away. That is my favorite part. You don’t have to continuously stir this like you do when cooking soup on the stove and you don’t have to prep it all first thing in the morning like you do with a slow cooker. Just throw everything in the Instant Pot and go check something else off of your to-do list.

When the Instant Pot finishes cooking, add in the 1 cup of Orzo pasta and set it to cook for 3 more minutes. A good rule of thumb when you are cooking pasta is to cook it for half the time it recommends on the box, so feel free to adjust your time if the pasta you are using recommends a different time (or if you are using a different variety of pasta, that’s cool too).

You set press the cook button for 25 min. Door have no cook button which button can be used when a cook button is unavailable?
Hi, it says to sauté but never says what the “cook button” means. Is this to pressure cook the soup for 25 mins and then pressure Cooke the orzo? Trying to clarify so I can cook this meal! 🙂
I’ve tried this recipe twice now, but every time the orzo burns at the bottom of the pot and I get an overheat warning before the pot has even reached the right pressure. I used exactly the same amounts of ingredients as in the recipe. Any idea what’s going on here?
Anything that needs to be saute’ I cook on the stove. This way nothing burns
Has anyone cooked the orzo separately?
