Apple Pie Cinnamon Roll Instructions
Warm the milk to about 110 degrees. I just guess at this and it turns out every time. Warm it until it is warm when you dip your finger in it but not so hot that it burns you.
Combine the milk with the dry yeast and stir to dissolve.
Add in the sugar, salt, butter, egg, and 2 cups of flour.
Set your mixer on medium and mix until ingredients are well combined.
Add in 2 more cups of flour and mix completely.
Dough can be a bit temperamental, depending on your altitude and humidity level. Sometimes I stop at this point. You may need to add in another cup or two of flour. Add flour until your dough is soft but not sticky.
Use a small amount of oil to grease a large bowl and transfer your dough to the bowl. Turn the dough over once in the bowl to coat it in oil and prevent the top of the dough from drying out.
Let rise for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
While the dough is rising, make your filling. Combine your melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Let it cool slightly.
Chop your apple into tiny cubes and set aside.
Once the dough has doubled, split it into two. Roll half the dough into a large rectangle and spread the melted butter mixture on top.
Sprinkle with the chopped apples.
Carefully roll your dough into a log.
Slice into one to two inch pieces and lay flat in a baking dish..
Bake for 15-17 minutes at 375 degrees
While they bake, make the icing by combining the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Whisk to get out any lumps. When your cinnamon rolls come out of the oven, drizzle them with the icing.
These will earn you some serious bonus points with your kids and make your house smell amazing.
