Pros and Cons of Choosing Daycare Close to Work
Here is a list of the Pros and Cons of choosing a daycare that is located closer to work than your home. This is something to definitely think about, especially if you live in the suburbs and commute in to the city for work.
Pros:
– Convenience, convenience, convenience – or at least it feels that way.
– Having extra time in the car with your child. It is a bonding time to ask questions about the day. For me, I commute 1 hour each way which would be equivalent to almost 2 extra hours of talking, singing and telling silly jokes.
– Gives you the option of checking in periodically. This could be important to you if you are nursing and wanted to nurse on your lunch break.
– If the weather is bad, will you be able to get to your kids quickly. Example: If it snows or the power goes out, how easily can you get to your kids?
– Less stress while sitting in traffic wondering what time will you actually get there to pick them up. Daycare has a closing time and you cannot control traffic.
– Carpool lane is available – need I say more?
Cons:
– If you are sick, then the child will be staying home with you.
– Daycare could be more costly, especially if you live in the suburbs and commute into the city.-Business travel and having your spouse driving out of the way to get the kids to and from daycare.
– Your children’s friends will live in a different area which causes more driving time on weekends to birthday parties and play dates. This may not sound like a problem, but let me tell you it does happen.
Every situation is different and can change periodically. It is up to you to choose the best daycare for your child and your family. Good luck and always go with your gut when it comes to choosing a daycare.
