Kazoops is New to Netflix and it is Adorable
Thanks to Kazoops for sponsoring today’s post.Â
Kazoops is a fun children’s show with a strong focus on critical thinking skills and you are going to love it. This Australian-based animated series is perfect for preschoolers and is launching on Netflix in the US and Canada today.
With 3 little girls in my house, all ages 4 and under, we were excited to have the chance to see this. We are always up for a new show and this one did not disappoint.
In my pre-mom days I worked as a teacher. I firmly believe that creative play helps kids learn important skills that they need to succeed in life. Kazoops, based on information from child development experts, that creative play helps kids learn critical thinking skills.
The show follows the adventures of six-year-old Monty and his best friend (and pet pig), Jimmy Jones. On a side note, my kids now want a pet pig . . .
Monty, like most 6 year olds, has a vivid imagination He puts it to good use by challenging preconceptions like “you have to wear matching socks” or “all games need rules”.
My kids regularly challenge preconceptions too. They focus on things like, “you have to go to bed when mom says” and “you can’t have chocolate for breakfast”. They aren’t nearly as polite about it as Monty is though.
In each episode, Monty learns how to creatively solve problems. This kid really knows how to think outside of the box. When Monty starts to think up a creative solution to a problem he is having, he says “Kazoops Jimmy Jones!” (hence the name of the show), and transports us into his imagination with fun animated dream sequences.
The animation on this show is adorable. It is filled with bright colors and has two distinct animation styles that blend together seamlessly.
My little girls were fascinated by how much was going on with the show. There were so many things to look at and the styling was very artistic so it was fun to watch, even as an adult.
Style-wise, parts of it reminded me a bit of the older claymation shows with the 3D features emphasized. Other parts blended into dream-like 2D scenes that added a fun visual element to the show.
As a mom, I know that my kids will often mimic behaviors they see on TV. We all know there can be some kid shows with behaviors we don’t want to see in our own kids. I have a few shows on my list that I will dive for the TV if they turn on because I won’t want to hear whiny voices from my own kids for the rest of the day.
I was pleasantly surprised at how upbeat and positive the characters in Kazoops were. I would be thrilled to see my kids mimic the behaviors they saw in the show. One episode, that I loved, showed the family heading out for a day at the beach. When their car broke down they were unable to go.
Instead of being sad and complaining, the characters chose to make the best of it and set up their own little beach-like setting in their back yard. There was no hit of negativity and a strong emphasis on being grateful for what you have.
My own kids have needed frequent reminders lately that they are very fortunate to have the things that they do so I loved seeing that example reinforced in media.
Kazoops was a huge hit with my preschoolers and since introducing it to my girls I’ve been getting frequent requests to watch it again.
