Mango Habanero Wings Recipe
I live in a house with 3 teenage boys. And when I say they eat everything, I mean absolutely everything. Not only do they eat anything they can get their hands on, like chips, every last bit of fruit, any frozen food that they can just pop in the microwave, and every granola bar that comes home from the store, they also constantly ask for wings, specifically these Mango Habanero Wings. I can’t blame them. They are amazing.
I usually end up making your typical hot wings. I know the recipe by heart, and can make it with my eyes closed. BUT I also end up eating the hot wing with them because I’m not going to make a separate dinner for myself (ain’t nobody got time for that), and it gets really boring to me after awhile of constantly eating them.
My personal favorite are these mango habanero wings. I ended up using bits from different recipes and came up with this one. I used only ingredients I could find at my local store but you could also find most of these ingredients on Amazon (links provided below) and save yourself a trip to the store. With this recipe, I always have everything I need in the house!
The recipe for the sauce is pretty similar to a basic wing sauce, just with a few extra ingredients to give it that amazing flavor! Like a can of mango nectar (I found it in the Mexican section at the store), and a habanero hot sauce (also found in the Mexican section).
Start with the sauce, because it will take a little while to reduce. In a saucepan, whisk together a can of mango nectar, sugar, cornstarch, melted butter, habanero sauce, and regular hot sauce. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally until it has reduced by a fourth and has started to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
While the sauce is reducing, you can get started on removing the tips, and separating the drumettes from the flats.
In a small bowl, mix together Âľ cup cornstarch with about a half teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Start dredging your wings in the mixture until they are all coated.
In a dutch oven, or steep frying pan, heat about two inches of oil to 375 degrees F. Fry the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side. Move the cooked chicken from the oil to a paper towel lined bowl or plate.
Remove the paper towel and toss with as much sauce as you would like. Serve hot.
